FFXII: it begins... (again)

I'm glad they're taking their time with it... It makes me anticipate it more, as opposed to releasing a Final Fantasy every year or so. I also like the gritty look of this game.

At this point, they might as well. Graphically, FFXII appears to be a second-gen PS2 title that didn't come out at the right time.

Give me a break. FFXII artistically mutilates almost every game on the market right now.

Feel the same here. Thought X-2 ended up pointless after it began like it could be pretty damn cool. Then FFXI just wasn't my my thing, so I'm definitely anticipating this title quite a bit. Been a long time, too long, since FFX. The ammount of work put into this game is crazy too, though the idea of throwing it on a next gen system for launch has crossed my mind. But whatever, let's not cheapen the first real FF next gen game, and let this cap off this gen as far as FF goes. They've only had 2 real traditional ones this gen if you include this. I got a feeling this one could really deliver too. I imagine it's a huge game.

are you crazy. the games looks fucking amazing add to that, almost every single scene in the game will use the graphics-engine that alone is evidence that they are confident in their graphics deparment, the game will look awesome.

what I can't get over is, how gay the lead character looks I mean wtf were they thinking?

With every FF game the hero looks more and more like a girl. In FF13 will you be a tranny out to save the world?

Well, it can't all be bad, right?

Wasn't the PS2 out when IX was released?

I don't think so. Sure you aren't thinking about DQVII?

I could swear that FFIX launched against the DC in the US, which was September 99, 6 months or so before the Japanese PS2 launch.

They stand to sell 10 times as many copies releasing it on PS2 than they would on PS3. And it looks fine. Why bother delaying it? It would spoil Square's "Three FF games per system" rule (which I doubt is a rule more than it is a coincidence).

It was ff8 that launched the same day as the dreamcast in the US.

VIII was launched against DC i believe.

What I'm really hoping this game has is a lot of depth in the battle system. Didn't Matsuno and team work on games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story and Tactics Ogre? If so, this may be the first Final Fantasy since 7 that really captivates me... but for a different reason. This game looks like the Final Fantasy game for the more hardcore gamers, not more mainstream oriented. It just looks more grittier than past Final Fantasies, and this may be the Final Fantasy that goes away from simplified combat and has a lot of depth. If this is simply one of those Final Fantasies where you equip like two pieces of armor and an amulet and that's the end to the customization, I think I'm not going to play it. I'm fiending for something like back in the FF6 days where you had like 2 accessories and helmets, body armor, etc. that you could equip. I loved messing with combinations... "Genji Glove" + "Offering" + "Ragnorak or Illumina." and "Gem Box" + "Ultima."

Speaking of the gritty look, I'm loving it. Although Vaan looks like a middle aged lesbian, the rest of the characters I've seen are cool.

You're right. I forget sometimes that's it's been almost 6 years since the DC's US launch, and more than 6 and a half since it's Japanese launch. It feels crazy that it's been that long. And crazier that's it's already been more than 4 years since Sega killed it.

I don't know, I quite liked the stripped down accessories route. I really liked it in FFX, because the abilities that then could be put on the accesories actually had some meaning, and in the case of the break HP/MP/Damage limit abilities changed long held conventions of the game.

If it can strip away the over-fussiness of a inventory of items for better defense and attack and focus on really making you carefully choose which abilities are going to work for the character and the situation, I like it pared down.

Man, the article said "SHOCKING RESTART" in Japanese and immediately thought they were rebuilding it from scratch again :lol

In the game the main character does not look quite as bad thankfully

:hopes they decided to go in a different direction with the battle system:

Didn't like where they were going at all. :\

Well FF X-2 just gave you girls as heroes so they finally got that out of their system. Now they go back to guyish looking guys...

FF 13 = Vin Diesel, Steven Seagal, Van Damme, Wesley Snipes, Hillary Swank and Heath Ledger. THE GAME THAT WILL ROCK YOU ALL.

And the battle system will still be below Grandia level...

Oh please... by the time this game comes out it's going to look pretty pathetic. Especially after a few months of 360 games and PS3 screenshots to deflate what hype FF12 has left. I'm a huge FF nut and all but somehow I don't see this game setting the world on fire.

A quick higher-res port wouldn't change that. If anything it could damage it further to be seen as the product of $300 hardware rather than being seen as the last hurray of 5 year old, $100 hardware. The game's assests would have to be extensively reworked from the ground up, meaning more time and money spent.

I'm kind of glad this one is flying under the radar. The games under the radar are the ones I end up liking the most. Final Fantasy Tactics, I didn't really pay too much attention to and I thought Ramza looked way too feminine, but that ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. As long as Square focuses on a great battle system and story, this is going to be great.

Instead of Hillary Swank if they want a horse they should just add a horse to the cast.

New Jobs: Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, New York Doll, etc.

And, to rehash all my FF12 posts: I worry that Matsuno-san's awesomness will, or has been, watered down. :?
