FIFA 20 remains leagues ahead in UK charts

Electronic Arts' annual football release remains on top by a wide margin, despite 66% sales decline from last week

FIFA 20 tops the UK retail charts for its second week running, despite a week-on-week sales decline of 66%.

Even with that drop off, FIFA 20 remains several leagues above any other game in terms of boxed sales.

Meanwhile, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is a comfortable No. 2 in the charts, performing well in the face of a lukewarm critical reception.

Borderlands 3 holds onto the No. 3 spot, enduring a sales decline of 43% week-on-week, while Gears 5 enjoys its third week at No 4, with sales only down 1%.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening sits at No. 5 this week after a 60% sales decline. It's followed-up by new entry Ghostbusters: Remastered, which comes in at No. 6, with PlayStation 4 as by far the most popular format, followed up Nintendo Switch and the Xbox One.

Mario Kart 8 enters at No. 7, enjoying its third straight week of climbing sales. It's joined by Sea of Thieves which has also seen similar sales climb, despite actually being down a spot to No. 8 from last week.

Sales were also slightly up week-on-week for both Minecraft: Xbox Edition, and Forza Horizon 3 which came in at No. 9 and No. 10 respectively.

It's interesting to note that the different platform versions of Minecraft are recorded separately. However, if the Minecraft sales data for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch were combined, the game would actually be placed at No. 3.

Here is the UKIE/GfK Top Ten for the week ending October 5:

They never switched back to PES even though the last two entries were definitely more fun than Fifa.

The lack of licenses really fucked PES over :(

Fifa needs a patch to sort out the bugs in career mode. Teams like Man City are practically playing their under 15's team. Though in Pitch Notes this year they said they fixed that issue. It's even worse now!

I just started a career with Girona in LaLiga 2nd division and it's not as bad.

Dropped Fifa 20 after EA access.. the game is painfully slow. FUT is broken as hell. Goalies might as well not be there. Volta is a nice addition but not sure it's worth a full price for me. I'll wait till they sort out the issues. Which I don't think they will. I'll just get it when it comes free on EA access next year lol

The problem lies in how they programmed curved shots and such.

An expert player can take the same shot every single time and the goalie will have to either glitch out or get possessed by god to block. Shit is ridiculous and they have to fix it.

Basically you better be real good at def or u'll get stomped.

This is why we can't have nice things.

PES is unresponsive, has terrible AI, has unrealistic positioning... i would switch to it if it wasnt such shitty gameplay

FIFA has loads of its own problems but atleast it feels good to play. and the Volta stuff is finally something different in a football game

Even in Pro Evo's bad years, FIFA has never, not even once, felt better to play.

Licensing and marketing have always been the selling points for FIFA. it was a piece of shit series during the PS2 era, and Pro was in a complete league of its own, but it was still outsold every year because it lacked those two things.

I've found that formations have a huge impact on defense effectiveness, maybe more than in the past.
I've recently switched to 4-4-2 with the default tactics configuration (no press when ball is lost, standard team wide) and definitely the team is much tougher on defense.
Also, for good defense is critical to keep the area covered (one defense behind the best positioned receptor, another one running on the line of the pass). With that, plus a good GK you should be fine.

I've played both games many years, and FIFA is much better and complete from a gameplay perspective. Licenses are great selling point, but even if all of the sudden Konami gets them all and FIFA lost them, I'd still play FIFA.
Animations, number of movements, types of ball passes, strategies and tactics... FIFA is a much better experience.
The only thing that I'd like to see is EA pushing and giving more incentives to people to play all-manual, which helps to create a much more imperfect, close to reality experience.

The biggest news here is that the XBO All Digital Edition is selling well (It's 3 bundled games are in the top 10)

Just the UK really. We stick to the same crap.

UK? FIFA is a global success. Here in Latinamerica theres a huge amount of people that only have a playstation 4 / Xbox only -and let me reinforce that: ONLY- to play Fifa.
A friend of mine has a catalog that only contains Fifa 14, 15, 16 17, 18, 19 and 20. Thats it.

Sorry, I was responding to the response that the UK has worse taste than Europe!

We tend to stick to 5 Franchises on the Chart for all year!

Man what is wrong with Mexico and everything under it?

I wish these idiots would learn how to download and update rosters themselves without buying a whole new game every year and supporting this trash.

Yeah. Specially considering that Konami really is a company of principles and high values.

Breakpoint's physical sales were 1/5 of Wildlands so not that impressive at all.

As for PES, it gets no advertising whatsoever. People don't even know it's still made.

This is why FIFA will never improve. EA know they can just fart out incremental 'updates' every year and the mindless flock will buy the crap regardless.

Single player with unassisted controls is incredible - by far the most realistic football game I've ever played.

Some really misinformed opinions in this thread.
