Fifth Phantom Saga website (PLAYSTATION 3)

For a former Sony hater, Yuji Naka sure is concentrating development on the Playstation platforms - Phantasy Star Universe, Project S (Sonic), next-gen Sonic and Fifth Phantom Saga. Oh, and that lovely Eye Toy game...

next gen looks current gen - it's a circle, a virgin, a new beginning from the same spot

Yeah, this was one of the worst looking PS3 games at E3, but I am still intrested in it as a point of reference...

A low visual bar for the PS3, if you will....

Tinfoil walls - homes of the future!

Well hopefully it might at least play well. Which you know, would be cool :)

Is this pic new? Don't recall seeing it before:

Ugh, this looks TERRIBLE. Even by current PC standards (low-end even), this looks buttfugly. With any luck, it won't be shown at TGS...or ever again. :lol PEACE.

that looks terrible. Sony should put a stop to this game, its making the PS3 look bad.
It's not great looking, but it certainly looks better than your average 360 game (shown thus far)...

You guys are being too harsh. FPS has good lighting and physics and looks a lot better compared to I-8.

Hell no. Get the higher res vid of I-8 at IGN. That looks really nice, especially the sequence where all the soldiers are running down the hill.

This looked really patethic at E3.
I hope they have improved it by a lot but I don't trust Sega. All their next gen games so far (including those on Lindbergh) are disappointing from a graphical standpoint.

But the environments are lifeless and ugly! It looks like CoD with more guys on the screen.

Good looking environment with good quality lighting and physics

No physics, same model of soldier, bad looking environments
:\

Ugh, now there's a game that looks bad thus far. CoD2 on X360 had such a terrible framerate and bad animation...I just can't imagine how anyone could have gone in praising it. Looks like a current gen PC game...with a lot of problems.

What makes I-8 look nice is its animation It has the standard military game look in terms of soliders (its broken up by there being monsters you're fighting against instead of a different army which is nice). It's seperated from those other military games not just by that but by having good animation which is rare in those types of games.

Fifth Phantasy Saga has a different look, but that doesn't make it better. The overall artstyle is very unappealing. Get whoever did PSO's artwork to do the art for the game and then it'll look alot better.

CoD2 on X360 only had frame rate problems because it was running on Alpha kits. The final version will be locked at 60 FPS. CoD2 also has some of the best smoke effects ever!

bingo

as much i love ww2 shooters ( even call of duty) the videos or cod2 let me cold, the animation is atrocious,no havok, ppl fall on a second, framerate its terrible ( i hope they sort that on the final game) but man the animation ITS THE SAME or COD,i want to buy that sucker on day one,but these two problems have a bad impact on that subject

Locked at 60 fps? I'll believe it when I see it...

It SHOULD run at 60, as it doesn't look impressive, but it just seems like it is bound to disappoint there. Quake 4 better run at 60 fps as well...

if anything looks lifeless and ugly, its FPS. It looks like a screen from a generic, 3-4 year old PC tech demo with some lameass looking demon guy photoshopped over them. That wall looks like its made out of oatmeal. The game also has an almost "too clean" look to it, which makes everything look fake and generic. In I-8, everything blends together so well and realistically.

I wonder how many here (who are saying the game looks like crap) have not bothered to see the game in motion.

I have no interest in this game (same goes for nearly all FPS games), but it does look -LOADS- better than what those screens show.

Great physics and lighting. The lighting also gives "life" to (which I agree) are boring environments in still shots.

But it looks more of something you'd expect from the 360, granted.

That has got to be PS3's Wallace Guyford contender!

OMG, it will be a battle of the century.

No, it won't be much of a battle. PS3 Phantamus Maximus is far more detailed. The background however! Boy, empty sewers are great.

The game is pretty ugly from the screenshots, but the videos show some really good lighting and some interesting effects. Not the most visually impressive game around, but pretty decent.

I did see it on the reel, and compared to virtually all other PS3 content, it was a disgrace to the system. An unimaginative glowing character floating in lifeless, boring environments in current gen shading in hi res, with few polygons - it was bad. And stuff like Fight Night, FF, KZ etc. made it just more obvious.

looks like your run of the mill 1st-wave game that you'll be desperate to play due to nothing else released at the time. every system has one!

We can see physics in screenshots now? :lol

That (very raw) I8 trailer already displayed a basic physics engine with car chassis getting flipped from arty explosions and some particle based smoke and debris that hung and moved in the air. And it has a long way to go in development, I have a feeling Insomniac is going to turn a few heads with the finished product. Ted Price knows fun. Cant say the same for Sega's token attempt at a fps.
