Week of June 22nd to the 28th, 2015.
Fighting Games Weekly is a place for all things fighting games. News, game discussion, events, streams, videos, players, drama, everything fighting game related.
Don't know what to watch right now? Check the FGCPros Twitch Group or Jaxel's Stream Viewer. If you want to watch multiple streams at once, you can use Jaxel's customizable multiviewer as well. If you are looking to see what events are coming up past this week, check out the FGC Event Calendar that our own Malice215 put together.
New to FGC-GAF is the FGC-GAF Index which lists the fighting games GAFers plays as a neat reference with some rough statistics to boot. To add yourself to the index, quote this post and use the survey link below. Please remember to save/bookmark the "Edit your response" link so you can edit your responses if/when you buy a game already on the list or a new game that releases in the future.

Last year, GAFer Shouta helped organize donations from various FGC-GAF members to send fellow member QisTopTier to EVO. Q suffers from Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy, but has always wanted to go to EVO and we're looking to double up this year and send him to EVO again!
If you want to help out, you can check out the details and pledge on this spreadsheet.

What fighting games do you currently play, what is your all time favourite and why?
At the moment, I’m focusing my eggs on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. That’s the one I’m trying to get competitive with, but I’m also trying to learn traditional fighting games on the side to improve my understanding of the mental neutral game. Right now, I’m learning Killer Instinct (the recent one of course), Skullgirls, The King of Fighters, and Arcana Heart 3 for fun. They’re all well-made games, and while I don’t put nearly as much time into them as I do Smash, I’d like to think I learn a lot from getting stomped by people and learning how to play patiently.
All time favorite would be Super Smash Bros. Melee, because I’ve probably put more hours into that than any other and even now I still play it.
What are your favorite mechanics from the current selection of fighting games and why? What are your least favorite and why?All time favorite would be Super Smash Bros. Melee, because I’ve probably put more hours into that than any other and even now I still play it.
From the current selection? I guess I really dig custom assists from Skullgirls. Makes for a lot of personalization, and it’s good to not be limited to shit options because the character itself is good. Also, Baroque from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom because even though it’s an old game I just love the idea of doing something with your red health. Half the time I’m getting beat too much to regen it back, might as well let me use it for something! In fact everything in TvC was fun bring it back Capcom pls
I really don’t like the rage mechanic in Smash for Wii U and similar comeback mechanics in general, I dislike how suddenly attacking the other player makes them stronger and more likely to KO me even though I’m outplaying them. Special mention to Lucario’s aura, it’s just awful. His attacks have awful startup, but I shouldn’t get killed at 30% because I got grabbed once.
Also #BanCustoms.

I had MvC 1 and 2 for Dreamcast and played them all the time when I wasn’t playing Smash 64, so that’s that I guess. I never took them too seriously until a few years ago when a high school security guard taught me how to play Street Fighter, and I started learning competitive Smash from a math teacher so I started playing seriously about a year ago.
I also like RPGs, action games, platformers, arcade racers, and turn-based games like Fire Emblem.
What is your favorite fighting game character and why?I also like RPGs, action games, platformers, arcade racers, and turn-based games like Fire Emblem.
Tough question, really tough. If you mean “appeared in a fighting game” then Yukari Yakumo from Touhou Hisoutensoku. If you mean “created for a fighting game” then Ibuki from Street Fighter, because she’s cute and I like ninjas.
Describe your style of play, and how do you play (local, online, etc.).
My style in Smash at least would be something of opportunistic play. I’m no stranger to blocking until they stop, and the moment they stop is when I start. However, I’ll also create opportunities by throwing things out to try and force reactions out of people. Most players have certain “typical” reactions that I can easily punish because everyone does it. Once they break out of that habit, I just gotta give them new habits and minimize my own habits. Any other fighting game I’m spamming special moves hoping for that jab-jab 2-hit combo orz
Oh, and I stick to online because I can’t drive out to my local events right now and I can’t keep paying entry fees every time, I’m saving for more video games I’ll never play.
What do you feel are your biggest strengths and weaknesses as a player?Oh, and I stick to online because I can’t drive out to my local events right now and I can’t keep paying entry fees every time, I’m saving for more video games I’ll never play.
I guess a strength is knowing what players expect and doing the right unorthodox action that catches them off-guard and lets me get in. It’s typically my bread and butter, as general as it sounds.
A weakness would definitely be my overall inexperience. I’ve only started playing recently, I have nobody locally to play with on a regular basis, and as such I get all my experience by playing in ranked matches against players I play once and move on with. At least I have SmashGAF to play with, but they don’t play everyone at high levels.
Best and worst moments in the your fighting game career?A weakness would definitely be my overall inexperience. Best would be making it to top 16 in winners at Combo Breaker for Smash for Wii U, my first major tournament!
Worst would be getting knocked out immediately after because my tournament nerves broke out in full force, and I was very unfamiliar with both of the matchups I lost to. I’m not used to playing on stage, so my mind self-destructed as time went on. Maybe next time!
What do you want from future fighting games?Worst would be getting knocked out immediately after because my tournament nerves broke out in full force, and I was very unfamiliar with both of the matchups I lost to. I’m not used to playing on stage, so my mind self-destructed as time went on. Maybe next time!
Port them all to PC, give them good netcode and please support them after the honeymoon period. Also better tutorials for new players.
Who should be on next week's GAF Player Spotlight?
I nominate FSLink since he volunteered, thank goodness. Everyone on SmashGAF is so humble. >.>
Since Dahbomb strongly encourages pre-orders, what games do you plan to buy that have been officially announced?
The new Star Wars Battlefront, Fire Emblem Fates, and probably Super Mario Maker later on.
