This is most likely GBA.

the WS version was a straight port, pretty much. so yes, this is GBA. the character sprites have more colors, for one thing.

Wrong. The WS version has upgraded sprites and graphics. They had to emulate Mode 7, on the other hand, and the music didn't turn out too great.

Plus the battles were strangely paced, and you couldn't do the dupe trick at all whatsoever.

Anyway, a Japanese release date would be really nice!

Last I played this was on Wonderswan. I still love this FF so much that I'd play it again for the 1342090th time.

That's definitely the GBA version, the WSC version doesn't have portraits in the text boxes, no kanji, and uses a much smaller font.

The WSC port is amazingly good. The only problem would be the sound but I blame that on the fact they used a shitty speaker for their systems.

I am really looking forward to this--I've always wanted to play FFIV in Japanese (it's one of my favorites), but all-kana is pretty illegible to a foreign speaker. Hell, it's illegible to most Japanese people. ITISLIKELYTOGIVEYOUASERIOUSHEADACHEWHENALLSSAIDANDDONE.

Improved graphics and character portraits are NOTHING next to the power of a real kanji font.

P.S. FFIII DS doesn't exist!

"This winter" is the Japanese date... it's no more specific than that at the moment. It hasn't even been officially announced in Japan yet - the info we have so far is from some insider. It'll probably be officially announced at the start of October with the rest of the holiday line-up for Nintendo machines.
