Final Fantasy X - 25th Anniversary

SE are so shit at this stuff.

They get everyone excited and usually "It's Fucking Nothing".

I would love however, for them to prove me wrong.

Do a proper modern VFX remake of this game. DON'T FUCKING CHANGE ANYTHING apart from upgraded graphics.

This game was certainly a favourite of mine. Beautiful world, great story, great characters and themes, great combat systems, and even the world exploration was fun, despite not having a full fat over-world or open-world.
When they do something they usually fuck it up with weird art choices (FFX and to a lesser extent FFVIII faces) technical issues they can't be bothered to fix (FFVII music cutting out) or generally bad and ugly UI overhauls (FFI-VI).

Whoever oversees these remaster projects either doesn't have a critical and artistic eye for details or doesn't care.

I'm grateful to this game because it made me divorce from Final Fantasy and look for greener pastures on other JRPG franchises.

Spira was a wonderful setting and the turn system was great, but everything else felt... bland. The story never took off for me, the overhyped "fully 3D environments" were the most linear and least interactive of the series so far, the sphere grid was overengineered and just hid a progression system just as linear as the sceneries, and I never felt that summons served other purpose than meat shields.

Bet you was happy when your dream came true and FFXVI came out...
Yeah you can keep the Generic FF games, although XII is probably the best one minus the silly combat.
Wouldn't mind a Remake of that

Calm down there zipper boy with beads. It still holds or not?

I got very hard when i saw this circa 2000 or so

Then i took an arrow to the knee when i saw the online part

I hope they change how you acquire the ultimate weapons, shit was tragic in the OG

Forever my favorite game.

Ah, back then I used to think that some day I would name my daughter Yuna. Now I'm 36 and still single so that ship has probably sailed, lol.

I try to forget this exists. :messenger_weary:

And yet, even with that, traversing it and the dungeons is still more complex than FFXVI by landslide, and the sidequests are more fun as well.
I mean, FFX is just a bunch of corridors but FFXVI is even worse because there is not an single useful item to be found in that fucking game. You know, the thing that makes exploration fun, the chance of finding something cool hidden.

I remember ending with 3000 types of one specific item. I needed around 100 of them at best to get to the ultimate sword. Not 100 for the ultimate sword, for the entire run to get to that sword.

My friend and I waited at the mall for a few hours before it opened to each snag a copy lol

I absolutely loved this game, but got burned out by blitzball. I haven't ever beaten FFX, but it's still on my list.

Earned every single trophy on this, and in the end I wondered what for - the game was one of the worst in the series I played.

I've bounced off FFX a couple of times over the past 20+ years, but got around to finishing it last year... I had mixed feelings and had to look up a 30 min YouTube vid that explains everything a few days after I'd seen the credits roll.

Blitz Ball is a genuinely bad and NOT fun mini-game. If you like Blitz Ball please speak to a psychiatrist.
That NPC who wanted you to kill 9(?) of every monster with a Capture(?) weapon can fuck off.
Dodging lightning strikes 200 times in a row?... I'd rather be water-boarded.

Great soundtrack, some good characters and back-stories in there, story and pacing were fine too.

A friend of mine absolutely loves the game... I told him I was playing through it with the "Topless Yuna" mod from Nexus Mods. (I wasn't but it's fun to anger him now and then.)

The exact moment I fell out of love with JRPGs was here.
VA turned cutesy stuff into animu cringe single-handedly. And no, it's not the "Hahahahaha!" scene. It's pretty much everything. Doubly so because of Nomura's inability to conceive practical clothing. I can take the odd flamboyant costume, but FFX is constantly challenging you to take it seriously in spite of its desperate effort to look ridiculous.

In the end, FFX is good. Its story and characters are good, too. But it took me literally a decade to just beat the story, and I never looked at JRPGs the same way again after my first attempt at FFX. And jeez, did they go overboard with sidequests. Fuck Blitzball, fuck the Thunder Plains, fuck the Chocobo races and fuck the monster arena. It could have been the best FF ever if they just restrained themselves a little, instead of wanting to fill that DVD with the equivalent of 3 multi-disc PS1 games and dressing every relevant character like a clown.

My favorite battle system in a FF game. Would love to see a remake with the full game done at the fidelity of the cut-scenes.

Amazing game—the visuals and soundtrack blew my mind. It's now my favorite Final Fantasy game, along with Lost Odyssey. I would buy a remake with no questions asked.

I feel like it has the most mature / hard hitting story of any mainline FF.

The idea that the main character (Tidus) comes to the realization that all the jokes and pushing the love interest along (Yuna, or arguably the other main character) on her journey, only to have it hit, and hit hard that this whole time she's been on a pilgrimage knowingly and literally sacrificing her life for the greater good, and in what bad taste all his comments now appear when he realizes the journey they're on together is one that when they reach the end of it, it will take her life. In essence he's helping her die, and doing a great job at it.

And all the bigotry and religion topics, it's easy to laugh at the story, but it's still very well done IMO.

ffx: 2001
ffxi: 2002
ffxii: 2006
ffxiii: 2010/2011/2013
ffxiv: 2010/2013
ffxv: 2016
ffxvi: 2023

2 games released in the first 5 years. 3 in the next 5 years. 3 (including reborn) in the next 5 years. & then 2 more in the last 10 years?...

on topic: ffx's a work of pure genius (blitzball exclude, naturally). always effortlessly easy to replay...

edit: that's 3 games in first 5 years (forgot about ffx-2 - i know, as have many others)...

Game was alot better than it was given credit for. I get it didn't have an over world map but man the music was still just so fucking good with Uematsu on board still, had that true final fantasy feel and I loved it. I did hate wakka but overall good characters and a good story, was my last true favorite final fantasy. 12 grew on me over the years but X was just solid as hell

Absolutely love FFX screw the haters... I really enjoyed my remaster playthrough back in 2019, Been thinking of playing FFX again I can't get enough of the OST (not the remastered ost though 🤢)

I was unemployed when this released and blitzed through the game over a weekend. I don't remember a ton about it except that it was very linear, fairly easy until the final boss who wrecked my shit which led me to power leveling in the Omega Ruins, and narratively reminded me of the Wonder Years.

Replaying 10 after 13 makes you realize what they were going for with 13, they just got lost in the sauce.

I hate X-2 though.

My fav game of all time and I'd love a single game remake of this for the PS6 gen.
I remember reading about Squaresoft over-estimating the PS2 and planned for a much bigger game for FFX, but then the real hardware showed up being weaker so they were forced to limit the game to be linear with no real airship. If they ever re-make this I hope they revive the old plans.

Still a favorite of mine and I guess at this point, it's safe to assume it always will be.

I'm not a fan of the remaster, though. Didn't like the redone designs for characters and the world feels comparatively lifeless. Something about the resolution bump didn't work in its favor, but playing the original/International on a ps2 through a retrotink 4k still looks fantastic.

I expect nothing from Square to capitalize on the anniversary, but I would love to be wrong.

Final Fantasy was all downhill from here. FFX was a milestone, one of the first games where the story really affected me.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say the entire JRPG genre was all downhill from here. That's not to say there haven't been good JRPGs since FFX, but in hindsight FFX was the end of the best era of JRPGs.

My opinion of FFX as a standalone game is that it's pretty good. I disliked the removal of the true overworld though, and I can recognize it as the start of the downward trend in single player FF games moving forward, even if 12 was an anomaly.

I would rank it on the lower half of FF games personally.

Ehhh. The game was ok/good.

In that time, I remember enjoying Knoghts of the Old Republic and Morrowind way more.

Definitely one of the best in the series. The game just so completely embodies the feel of 2001 ~ 2002, too. Love going back to it every once in a while.
