I'm starting fresh on a legacy server to play with friends as a new player.

I'm opting out of the auction house. I'm not fooling around with virtual economies anymore. I've been rich in other games, It's not worth it to mess around for me. I don't know what the consciquences are of this choice.

If a legacy player has class battle or magic class left to level, can they experience all the story quests and etc.?

How do I activate more hotbars? I tried looking in the options, but I couldn't manage to find what I needed to change to do it

Thanks for letting me into the Free Company, gang. I'm already enjoying this game more than any other MMO since XI. Dunno what I'll play when the actual game launches, but for now I'm an Archer named Sariel M'Nyanth.

It's basically a new game... seems weird that they are offering that option. They are limited to certain servers though.

It is more of a sequel or expansion than a reboot. Transferring characters is not unheard of.

Also I don't think that most people have a bunch of 50s (or for that matter, are filthy rich). I wouldn't be surprise if I'm the norm with just two and some change.

We can experience the story regardless as there is forced level sync. And as an added bonus we experience a slightly different story. One that picks us up right where we left off. I completed all of the story last night with my legacy character.

Do we know if they're going to do another test next weekend, or when Phase 4 starts? I've still only gotten to play for a few hours last week, was going to play this today (PS3) but the couch was taken :p

Fanboys are defending the combat system. The same thing happened with WAR, SWTOR, and the original FFXIV. Ruh roh.

It couldn't possibly be that some people have different tastes and actually like it, huh? Straight to the fanboy accusation.

MMO combat in general is pretty bad these days. It's just a matter of preference. Do you prefer faster crappy combat or slower crappy combat? I like the latter myself, nice to be able to type out some stuff between swings. :P

I find the combat system in Final Fantasy XIV to be more than serviceable. I actually quite enjoy it.

The problem with MMO's that allow massive amounts of movement during combat is that I feel it [generally] results in everyone strafing all over the place. That's one of the things I disliked most about GW2, which is odd considering how much I thought I would enjoy it. GW2 still had those "invisible hits" too which frustrated me. TERA did the combat thing pretty well, since movement actually decided [most of the time] whether an attack would connect or not. However, leveling felt like more of a grind, at least prior to the patches, and it kind of felt to me like one of those F2P MMO's, which is why I wasn't surprised when they later dropped the subscription fee.

I don't know how much people are expecting FFXIV's battle system to innovate, but it's done enough for me to become interested in it. What I really find myself loving most is the world, the characters, and of course, its music. It's just a fun place to explore/quest in. The little nods to Final Fantasy titles is enjoyable, as well, and it seems to have a nice amount of humor to it.

Either way, I can easily see myself sinking many...many hours into Eorzea. :)

Just to post as someone here from the beginning, the game is such a home run now.

The original felt like such a generic MMORPG and its ridiculous systems (random skill point gain, the crafting system, the copypasta) really did it in before it even started. There was no real FF storyline brewing, aside from your character being special with being able to see 'Echos' of the past.

The new version is super drenched in FF lore, has a new crystal based storyline, and throws FF standards right off the bat. It FEELS like a new FF.

On the gameplay side, I miss my BLM owning with Thunder spells (very odd choice to make Thunder line spells DoT ones) and I rather enjoyed the spell combo system from 1.23. However, I must complement SE on a very smooth experience this far in beta 3. Lag and log in waits have been next to 0.

I have to disagree with part of your post.

The gameplay might not have been good but it was anything but generic from the start.
I feel like a big reason it flopped was that, in a sense, it wasn't generic enough. What I mean by this is that too much was changed just for the sake of changing it. The retainer system was a step down from the standard AH, two steps down before it got improved.
The combat system was just a mess.

Having to skill-up to level your class, fatigue and more, none of that was generic but it was all terrible. Once they normalized many of the game's systems and reduced latency, they had room to build and now we have a pretty decent game on our hands.

I haven't gotten too far (just level 7, halfway to 8 I think) but I'm enjoying it. But then I haven't played too many MMOs, the most serious I was was with FFXI and I gave up since I started late ENOUGH to not reliably party with others and that involved grinding on giant enemy crabs for long periods of time and generally being antagonistic to solo'ing.

Man, there are no healers around Limsa Lominsa. There were about three different groups of three outside the dungeon looking for a healer, earlier.

I had stumbled upon a bug yesterday where all nametags of players, npcs, etc were hidden. I double, nay, quadruple-checked the options and even flipped it on and off to see if it was somehow stuck, but to no avail.
I restarted the game several times but that didn't help either. This makes finding friends or completing certain quests very hard. The only way to see a nametag is to click on the player/npc/object.
Does anyone else here have this issue?

Yeah, unfortunately the only class that starts there is Marauder and the only healer is Conjurer (though I cleared the dungeon with a Thaumaturge healer and many are reporting that they beat it without any healer at all.)
Fortunately, launch will be a bit better as will next week with the content/duty finder (and launch will have the Arcanist class)

Dont forget that we also have to do all the starter quests, grand company, and a good deal of whatever fresh players will experience.

Also if Rock is coming back (or at least giving it a shot) it would be cool to see even more SoD crew try the game, aside from those already coming.

Its gonna suck if everyone goes Ultros though, Then again, I guess no one can create a new character on Sargantas yet.

I posted this in the other thread, I guess I should've posted it here though.

I spent most of today just exploring Eorzea and taking pictures.

there are a lot more of them here.

lol whats the story behind that last shot? Also I gotta find that sand dune place. Deserts, old ruins, and jungles are my favorite area types. Just a certain atmosphere about em.

That would really be the best option, but it seems the GAF Legacy players have already made the decision to stay on Sargatanas.

I'd be fine with moving to Ultros if that was majority decision. Both sides are segregated at the moment, so its not like we really have a good measure of which way to go you know?

New characters cant be created on legacy in this phase, yet legacy cant transfer to new.

All progress on all servers including Legacy servers will be wiped after Phase 3. It seems that Squenix is using this phase to test the technical aspects of the character transition on the Legacy servers so it makes sense that right now new character creation on Legacy servers is locked.

I don't see anything wrong with the combat system. It certainly still needs some adjustments, but I don't think its where near as broken as 1.0 combat. There's a decent base here that they can continue to improve.

Yeah honestly it shouldnt be blind defense this time around. The base is pretty cool.

I'm making a lalafell as my main character, but during beta I've really gotten attached to my mi'qote
I'm thinking of making a Lalafell-centered caster [since they fit the class mechanic so well], and a Hyur/Miqo-te melee-type.

I already foresee myself spending way too much time with this game...

What city has/will have the arcanist guild?

Cross posting my pictures from the FFXIV OT.

Glad people are enjoying themselves with the beta, I see there's a lot of varied opinions for what is good and bad but I think Yoshida did a really good job putting how criticism is really varied among players (experience and inexperienced player values).

Here's some shots I took yesterday:

it's in La Noscea (or however it's spelled) in a resort like area called Costa Del Sol or something. you can get to it by taking the boat near the fisherman guild.

Figured. Really weird how only Marauder starts there right now, and that Gridania has a whopping 4 classes plus both casters. I guess Uldah will still be stuck with only Melee classes.
Not really, Ul'dah has Thaumaturge! It's actually pretty well-balanced with a tank, a melee DPS and a caster.

I agree. The base of the system is good, I like the fast pace combat, but I feel like something is a bit off. I can't put my finger on it, but it feels just like a spamfest. I'm only lvl 25 on my legacy, so it might be different at 50, but just seems like zerging is the best way to go right now.

Also, I wish Jobs had more skills besides 5, I know you can mix and match almost anything, but iconic skills from those jobs are what makes the game cooler.

I don't like how they changed it from a seamless world to loading every time you change zones, but hey FFXI was like this and it fared well. I guess it really doesn't matter since there is no OW PvP, since it would be weird chasing someone from zone to zone and having to load each time.

edit: Oh yea, plus 1 for Limsa!!
