Finally saw Kung Fu Hustle...

God Damn.... this movie was fucking awesome. I was looking at it being similar in coolness to Shaolin Soccer, which to me was good but not DVD-purchase worthy. But damn, Kung Fu Hustle just got cooler and cooler right up until the end. Blew my expectations right out of the water, and I'm strongly, strongly considering a DVD purchase here.

Phenomenal. Buddhist Palm technique >>>> Jet Li.
 
It all led up to him hopping on the eagle and the noise it makes.
You don't get more over the top than that scene. I think thats when the last hour or so of comedy caught up with me and I almost bust a gut laughing.
 
I'm probably going to pick this up eventually. I love the beginning where the gang is killing everyone and dancing and whatnot...Good stuff!

Don't fucking support UMD movies please. Save that $$ and support BR-DVD later instead.

Choose the media you support wisely man. You don't wanna be explainin' this to your kids years from now. Just ask my uncle about when his kids discovered his 8 track collection. Never lived it down to this day, and 8 tracks were actually popular! :lol

People like this movie..?

I tried to like it, I came into it expecting a really funny movie, etc., but it was *too* immature for my liking. I don't mean to sound arrogant when I say that, but there was like nothing clever about it. It was just stupid, and not even stupid funny.
 
Because it wasn't as pure a comedy as his other films. I really don't get the immature comment, especially not when it comes to Stephen Chow movies.
 
I always wanted Stephen Chow to take a shot the the kung fu genre after seeing all his movies, and I loved every minute of. It's like every variation of kung-fu films are in this one movie, you might see the slight difference between fight sequences that were influenced more under Sammo Hung's direction then Wo Ping in them, kinda cool.
 
yeah. I think it's great how most of the cast are old school kung fu actors. I couldn't believe that was Bruce Liang, and I totally flipped when I saw Chiu Chi Ling!

Seeing some of the old folks kick ass was surreal, I keep reading about the making behind the film and didn't realize that the landlady and landlord duo all trained along side Jackie Chan growing up!
 
When I got to the part where the landlady and protagonist were running around at high speed like they were in a Warner Brothers cartoon I was like, "Holy shit this is going to be an even bigger waste of time than Shaolin Soccer."

Then by the end of the movie I was like "Wow that was awesome and soooo much fun!" The music was cool and all of the fights were really imaginative. I really liked the two assassins that shot blades from their mandolin (err, is that a mandolin?).

It was okay, but not brilliant. Definitely not Stephen Chow's best. The problem for me was Chow's lack of presence on the film, even though he's meant to be the central character that we're all following. He's very unlikeable and he doesn't spend anywhere near enough time on screen for us to give a shit about his radical transformation.
 
I thought it was great fun. Didn't have sky-high expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Good mix of comedy and original, refreshing fighting scenes and some nice plot twists I wasn't prepared for...not even the story got in the way, because of the way it made fun of the traditional martial arts movie storylines (I assume that was their intentions at least).
 
I'm really dissapointed Blockbuster.com doesn't have God of Cookery, Love on Delivery, or Tricky Brains. I've wanted to see those for a while.

Part 2 is my favorite of the 3 "Fight Back to School." When Tat was busting out as the Terminator, I was freakin' dying!!
 
KFH was fun; but like others - not my favorite Chow flick.

It catered more to Western audiences with more somber / straight forward fights near the end. I prefer Chow's lighthearted stuff. :/
 
Loved it, but it would have been better with more dancing. :D
The bit near the start with the axe gang (all synchronised) was so cool, but they never followed it up.
 
Haha I loved Kung Fu Hustle. Without a doubt Stephen Chau's best movie yet for me. :lol

One of my favorite scenes is when Chau hits The Beast over the head with a piece of wood from that chair. The Beast gets pissed off and beats the living crap out of Chau. Then when The Beast asks Chau why he hit him, he responds by picking up a little splinter of wood and hitting The Beast in the head with it. Haha

My other favorite part is when Chau and his friend go to assassinate the hotel owners. The friend keeps tossing stuff to Chau and accidently goring him among other things. OMG I've never laughed so hard... and the snakes!! LMAOOO!!
 
When the guy stole the money from the mute girl. Figured out that was the girl he took the pissing for, and kept running I started multi-tasking. When I looked up and found that The Beast was in frog mode I just turned it off.

I though Will and Grace had the worst straight guys playing gay characters, but the "fairy" tailor was just really confusing.
