Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine

After all the 'hype,' the protests to get this thing released, and the news reportss saying it would never see the light of day, it has finally surfaced (thanks to a radio DJ who leaked the whole thing), and it's absolutely stunning. Her best work to date by quite a large margin. These songs are really gorgeous compositions, drenched in over the top strings, odd sort of Tin Pan Alley-esque sounds... it's really amazing. Great melodies... Not as brooding as her other stuff, it's far more mature. I'm really shocked at how good this is... if it's okay with the mods (since it probably won't be officially release anyway) I'll post a song or two...

Highlights:

"Not About Love"
"Oh Sailor"
"Waltz"
"Used to Love Him"

I really don't see why SONY refused to release this for album 2 years. While it isn't exactly radio friendly, a few songs could do pretty well if they pushed it.. and she has a really big fanbase. Hmm...

Her Beatles cover for the movie Pleasantville was pretty cool and a few songs from When the Pawn hits... were good.

I was under the impression that a few songs still had not leaked, and that in general all of the tracks leaked beyond Extraordinary Machine and A Better Version of Me were poor quality radio rips, much like the recently leaked NIN track The Hand That Feeds.

If there has been an actually CD quality rip of the entire thing then I greatly look forward to hearing it as I dug those two tracks that I mentioned before. SO whats the word Star Power? CD rip or radio quality?

Well, there are one or two CD quality rips, and someone cleaned up the radio rips a bit, so they're at least a bit more listenable.

Eh, I'll wait then. Eventually someone will nab the CD this DJ has been bragging about and then the whole album, in a decent quality will be out there. Then again, I can also hope that Sony will release the freaking thing.

We'll see which happens first. :D

I first came across Fiona Apple from the Across the Universe song on the soundtrack for Pleasentville - so I bought her albums...and they were nothing like the Pleasentville track. Booo! In short they sucked. Like Tori Amos on Valium.

You do know it's a cover of a Beatles track?

Fiona Apple is hot, but Rufus Wainwright's version of "Across the Universe" for I Am Sam > Apple's.

Hey, is she dating Pete Yorn now? Cause if she is, then she came into my store the other day with Pete. If not, then Pete Yorn is dating a Fiona Apple doppelganger, and you know what Capt. Murphy would do to those damn doppelgangers...

I like it quite a lot. In fact, "Red, Red, Red" is probably my favorite track. That said, I don't know if i'll end up liking this more than When the Pawn.

I need to hear better-quality tracks, which I will hear when the album hopefully comes out.

probably the same reason why Q-tip never had his album released (even though everyone who listened to it said it was genius).... politics.
