Firefox 1.0 RC1 has been released to the Mozilla FTP site.

Windows users click here: Download

This is different than the PR (Preview Release) -- it's got bug fixes, a few new features and near final code. One of the new toys is Thunderbird (mail client) integration. If you have Thunderbird setup, it will read the config and (presumably) notify you when you've got mail. There are two entries in the Tools menu for this, one for read mail (click it to launch Thunderbird) and one for new message.

The final 1.0 release is supposed to hit on 11/9 (busy day, heh).

Why wait when you can get it now?

I'm not noticing much new. The thunderbird notification is cool, but the check mail etc links were in the PR.

The final 1.0 build comes out in like a week and a half. You can't wait until then? Why update twice when you can update once?

Geez, I always wait. Why fuck around with bugs and non-functional extensions in something that isn't even a final release?

It's not like the new one is going to offer such dramatic improvements that there's some reason to go get it now. Upgrading hasn't done much of anything interesting, since the first version I grabbed. The download manager was nice but that's about it.
