Hi

If I upgrade to this, will it detect my previous add-ons and extensions? and if so will it give me the option to import them (at least the ones that are compatible)?

Yes, it will look for updates for all of your extensions when you upgrade to 4.0.

Does anyone else still get shit image scaling in Firefox? I was hoping they fixed it in 4.

Left is how the avatars look in Chrome, right is Firefox.

You could always just scale it yourself and follow the avatar size guidelines...

Shortcut is useful. Hopefully there is some way to pin it as a button through an extension or something, I like being able to browse the history of recently closed tabs.
If you hit Alt + S you get the old History menu with the Recently Closed Tabs list at the bottom.

How do you get the menu next to the tabs? Playing around with it and it isn't working good, I got omni installed too.

edit: Think I got it now, put tabs on top.

Page loading and scrolling feels slower in FF, but I need my plug-ins. GAF without smileys, user styles and YouTube Me isn't the same. :(
Greasemonkey and Stylish work on Firefox 4. Smooth Scrolling works fine for me, I don't think it's slow.

So, this is how it looks like on OS X.

Not sure if diggin' it. Gonna have to look for a good theme.
I found that using a Persona is a nice option, but there's a bug with the tabs.

For those of you who want to try something like Chrome's instant page loading, you can try something similar for Firefox.

Is there a Firefox 4 64-bit for windows?
Not officially, however, Minefield does have a 64bit executable. The only differences I've noticed are faster search bar queries (history from the awesome bar) and maybe page rendering.

I started using the 64bit JaegerMonkey builds when they were initially released, but I'm unsure if there's any difference now from the one there.

Took forever to get it looking halfway decent at work today. Won't be installing it here at home until I have to. FF3 is still fine for me for the time being.

k then, I was using the 32-bit version for a long time anyways, sure this will still be fine.

I do notice that, much like the IE 9, there is some blurriness to the fronts with that ClearType font

Have you tried adjusting the ClearType settings? In Windows 7, type "clear" in the start menu and you should see "Adjust ClearType text".

Hoping memory leaks are plugged. And not digging the thought of a big orange button.

And why a x64 for linux and not win?

There's an extension to make it a clear button. I'm worried about the memory leaks though =/

Whoa. Don't know if it was just memory catching up, but first load took like 15 seconds. Weird.

Having the reload button far from navigation is annoying.
And how do I get my status back for my Forecastfox.

This does feel really snappy.

Broken homepage?

And ALT location is weird on the bottom.
Ideal would be in the addon bar.

Is there any way I can update from 3.6 without losing my open tabs? I have like 30 open right now...

I guess I could copy all the URLs to a text file, but yeah, is there a way?

Just installed it. It is indeed alot faster for me than Firefox 3.6 or whatever I had installed before. Makes a great impression so far. Gaf loads much smoother for me now.

Is this faster than Chrome?

If you mean the rendering then it probably depends on the page, ff4 loads the OT about half a second quicker than chrome for me. All the threads are just there where as in Chrome it's just a white background for a moment, that's with version 11.0.696.16.

Installed. Looks just fine. The 2 things I don't like:

- Lack of status bar (this is what I hate about Chrome too, silly trend that should at least be an option to switch it on/off).
- Orange button menu - the button itself is fine, no problem there, the menu is unintuitive, guess I'll have to remember the keyboard shortcut for recently closed tabs.

Not even close, and don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise.
The people are lying!!!
But seriously though, in benchmark tests I think Chrome is faster still, but in a real life setup (where I guess it depends on your computer specs, installed add-ons, plug-ins, ...) the experience may vary. For example, for me Chrome starts up faster and it loads some pages faster than FF, but FF also loads some pages faster than Chrome*, and Chrome also tends to lock up for a second when loading heavy pages while FF doesn't. So for me, the overall experience feels faster on FF. Don't tell me I'm lying.

*I think that has more to do with the website's servers rather than the browsers themselves

Fell out with Firefox this time last year, went to Chrome. I am not going back - well unless Chrome annoys in the future.
Doesn't chrome send your personal browsing data or some such to Google?

Is there anyway to change my searchbar in the top right (Google) to show things in UK such as the prices of the shopping items in ££ and from UK stores? :/

Use the 'manage search engines' function on the drop down menu of SEs, then 'get more SE's' link.

Mine defaulted to £ but I changed the url in the OP from en-US to en-GB, you can probably do what BitchTits said.

Liking this. It's a step in the right direction. I have used firefox for years before just recently switching to Chrome.
I think I'll stick with chrome as my main browser for now but I'll keep this around for certain websites.
I really like that the browser wars are finally heating up again.

Go to 'Bookmarks' and select 'Bookmark All Tabs'. Just save it anywhere (bookmarks menue, toolbar, whatever). Install FF4 and re-open that bookmark file with a single click. It'll take a little bit to download everything again if you are on a slow connection, but it won't be that bad. :)
