Firefox @ 99% of system resources - why?

I installed Firefox yesterday (I use Opera but my wife always uses IE and I got tired of the weird installs) and when it's running, the whole system slows down. I check the Task Manager and it says that firefox is taking 99% of my resources. Any idea why this is happening?

and when I try to check my email through outlook (yeah, I know but I can't change that one) while firefox is running it always hangs.

anything?

No idea.

I also have a Firefox question. The browswer has never given me a problem on my pc or laptop, but it seems to delete every cookie and saved password on my parents computer. Anyone know why the hell it does that?

For me it's recently started taking a good 45 seconds to start if I've got no other firefox windows open.

I'm on a 3.4GHz P4 with 2GB of RAM. This should not be happening.

Memory leak, save preferences and reinstall. Its a nasty little bug they have yet to fix. And most dont seem to notice it. I've suggest that they fix it several times and they havent yet. I usually fill it up within 2 weeks and i have a bitchin rig.

some cache folder or something, dont know what exactly it is. But it takes forever to start Firefox (taking up to 3 minutes sometimes) I suspect that its just some type of leak. I'm not sure. But it just become unbarable. And since i only use Firefox and i have at times 20 tabs open i can see why i might have problems. But once i save preferences and bookmarks and reinstall i'm good for a week or so.

I don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about.

I've noticed something similar- having two Firefox windows open takes up something like 250mb of ram.

Hmm...my comp is only using 200 MB of RAM right now, with two windows of Firefox open (the second window is just to test that condition) and iTunes running. CPU Usage at 2%.

This is using a P4 2.60 GHz CPU and 1 GB of RAM.

Also, Firefox opens more or less instantaneously for me most of the time (I just opened 5 windows in a row in quick succession).

I don't know what's wrong with the rest of your systems.

Buggy software I guess. You can't just start blaming the uers. That is why we switched from IE....

Anyone know why Firefox would delete my cookies and passwords every other day?

Shiira! Fast, reliable, intuitive, and the icon is a fish. HOW CAN YOU BEAT THAT!? But seriously, tab exposé. w00t w00t!

I don't get the point of tab exposes. Aren't the tabs basically cascaded anyway?

And Shiira sometimes has problems loading images.

Safari!

Firefox is fine on my crappy machine. You guys just suck at the internet*

*or, more likely, there may be some incompatibilities between firefox and an application that you are running. Just try reinstalling the latest stable version of Firefox.

Heh thanks for this thread. I didn't even realize firefox was reaming 45% of my system resources. back down to <10% where it belongs! :lol

My Firefox broke once, and started to use 99% of my CPU time avery time I started it. Simply reinstalling didn't do anything, so I deleted the Mozilla folder from C:\Documents and Settings\whatever and it helped. You should back up your bookmarks first, but if you are an Opera user you probably don't have anything important there anyways :)
