A British mother who took her toddler son to Syria, has been found guilty of membership of so-called Islamic State.
Tareena Shakil, 26, is the first British woman to return from the self-declared caliphate to be convicted of the offence.
Shakil, of Birmingham, has also been found guilty of encouraging acts of terrorism through messages posted on Twitter. She denied the charges.
She had admitted travelling to Syria.
But following a two-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court, the jury rejected her claim that she had only wished to live under Sharia law.

Poor kid, hope there's family for him to go to, or a decent foster placement. She deserves everything she gets.

Hmm. Too bad. Lock her up and throw away the keys please.

Edit: So the crying video is actually an act too. Well than, hope they make an example out of her.

So she wanted to live under Sharia Law and that's why she left. Why did she return? Take the kid away and give her whatever punishment is warranted for actively seeking out membership in a terrorist organization. No more time for head in the sand behavior with how widespread ISIS is recruiting people and the lone wolf attacks already carried out everywhere.

She was probably much more useful living as a propaganda tool in Britain than staying in Syria.

You don't need to join ISIS if you just want to live under Sharia law. It's part of several major nations justice system, all of them a lot easier to travel to than ISIS controlled warzones.

Elements of sharia are present, to varying extents, in the criminal justice system of many Muslim-majority countries.Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Brunei, Qatar, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan and Mauritania apply the code predominantly or entirely

It's really sad of what happens to the children because of all of this. This woman is extremely selfish to deny her children a normal life. Even if they get taken care of in a foster care, it's traumatic to lose their mother and their family.

No sane woman, or person really would want to live under Sharia law. Its unbelievable that people would want that.

yeah but look at it from her perspective, you and 39 of your closest friends get to grow hymens in the afterlife and blow a guy for eternity. Amazing stuff.

How many years is she looking at ? I hope they throw the book at her.

I really feel for her kid though. I hope he lands in a good foster home and doesn't end up screwed up in the head.

im confused.
She ran there, found that she wasn't about dat life(c) then ran back home.

While charges should be filed, Im surprised everyone wants blood.

Shakil, of Beechfield Road in Birmingham but formerly of Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire, posed her son for pictures wearing an IS-branded balaclava after secretly running away to Syria in October 2014.

She told the court it was because he "loved hats".

Okay...

I'm kinda surprised ISIS allowed her to leave. Trying to get her to recruit or maybe carry something else out. Lock her up for good or execute her.

I hate this modern thought process of 'blood lust', everyone wants blood. No, most law abiding citizens want justice. This is a woman who willfully joined a terrorist organization, and returned. Who are you to say she returned because she wasn't about that life, as opposed to maybe she was sent back as a recruiting tool, maybe still holds the same beliefs?

The San Bernardino terrorist killers, the woman is largely believed to be the one who increasingly sent her new husband over the edge, she was the one who actively believed in that stuff etc.

So no, it's not about blood, it's about getting tough. Want to leave to join a terrorist organization, you're going to get arrested and serve years in jail hopefully. Not to mention she stupidly put her child at risk as well. Rather than let him grow up in Britain, she actually took him to an active warzone where he could've been easily killed in an attack, taken away etc.

Move to a war zone with your toddler son.

Have they checked if she is straight crazy and not just ISIS crazy?

She took her child with her, willing to turn him into a bloodthirsty jihadist. She used social media to spread ISIS propaganda and called muslims to take up arms against infidels. She went to Syria on her own accord, knowing exactly what to expect then tried to backpedale and lied to the police.

We're dealing here with a very dangerous invidual. Plain and simple.

And that's the big issue. We can't know who's coming back reformed and who's coming back to recruit. Due to the nature of the group, they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt.
