The next main entry in SCE's monkey game is headed to the PS2.

January 17, 2005 - With all the apes running loose on Sony products (two games for the PSP, two recent games for the PS2, plus appearances in Metal Gear Solid 3), no one would call you an ape if you'd expressed doubt that Ape Escape 3 was still in development for the PS2, especially since Sony Computer Entertainment hasn't been too forthcoming with details. Finally, the ape has been let out of the net on this latest Ape Escape game, and it is indeed coming to the PS2.

Titled Sarugetchu 3 in Japan, Ape Escape 3 takes the series back to its roots as a pure ape-catching game (the mini-game based nature of recent games had us worried). The game takes place in the world of television. This time around, the apes that you catch are either actors performing in television programs, or are part of the show's production staff. While watching television, if you see an ape performing in a scene, you've got to head out to the shoot location to capture the ape and all his friends.

Apes once again change into forms designed to make you laugh, with the television setting allowing for plays on famous people. And the apes aren't alone this time! You can also change your own form, earning different powers.

In addition to Ape Escape 3, SCE is also working on Ape Escape P for the PSP. Both games focus on catching apes, but the PSP version is just a remake of the original. Those wanting the true Ape Escape sequel will have to turn to the PS2. Development is currently at 65% with a Japanese release date still unannounced.

God, Anoop seriously needs to cut back on that stupid schtick. "Finally, the APE has been let out of the net..."

ugh.

Lame.

the bad : Ape Escape games always been misjudged by reviewers..

the good : sony still making it to sketch the smile on my face :D

canÂ’t wait to see the first images.

It really didn't look like a remake of the original from the pics (were there dinosaurs in the original?), but it's been a while so I dunno.

hopefully sony brings this to europe, because the action game pumped & primed didnt made it to us.
Sony didn't bring it to America either... UbiSoft did. SCEA isn't interested in Ape Escape since they're already funding 3 mascot platform series (Jak, R&C, Sly).

I'm surprised UbiSoft didn't bother with a PAL release of P&P though. :/

Ugh! Ape Escape 1 & 2 are my favorite Sony 1st party games, but this just dumb, seeing that the PSP doesn't have dual analog! What a waste.
