Funnily, I didn't object to the last sequel, so I'll see how this one goes.

...Fuck, I need to rewatch the original.

I really don't care for the bad science these films promote. Honestly a little surprised Neil de Grasse Tyson sanctioned it.

The short made multiple small children in the theater I was in start crying and at least one started yelling "Stop it stop it stop it!"

It was really awful.

I don't have a problem with a new one being made. It'll have been 4 years since the last, and each other one had 3 years in between. Could be worse.

Haven't hated any of the movies (the last one was definitively a drop in quality but not terribly so), so I'll probably see this.

They're animated movies bro. The short movie has the little creature thing flying around space in an alien ship shooting planets around like pool balls.

Went to see the Peanuts movie tonight(loved it), and yeah, the whole short ran before it. Figured it would have been like a Pixar one off but more annoying, but yeah.

Basically I think the take away is the squirrel chasing the acorn forms our galaxy in terms of the planets and ends with making an asteroid start heading toward earth... :|

Tyson only cares about bad science if the rest of the movie is believable. Nobody is going to take science lessons from four talking anthropomorphic animals.

Ice Age 4 made 800 million, of course they were going to make another one.
I predict the similar pattern of the entire movie being terrible outside of Scrat.

That first movie was all that was needed.

Whyyyyyyy

The Ice Age franchise is absoloutely fascinating to me because it's a textbook example of a franchise completely and utterly going off the rails both narritively and stylistically.

The original film was a relatively straight-forward movie about three animals banding together in an attempt to bring a human child back to its tribe. Yes, obviously it was a comedy with whacky high-jinks involved...but the general world of the first film was fairly naturalistic and grounded. It's a Stone-Age world where every day is a struggle for survival, and where humans and animals share an uneasy existence with one another.

Then after the original film's success, with each passing movie, the tone of Ice Age's universe became progressively more and more cartoonish and surreal, until such a point where the fourth movie introduced a whacky gang of animal pirates sailing across the seven seas...

And now, for this fifth installment, apparently they're now sending Scrat up to space in a giant spaceship. It's kind of amazing.

I didn't even like the first one. Wait, Scrat in a spacesuit is part of the movie and not a non-sequitur short, like when he caused Pangaea to break up?
