First screenshots of a triple-A open-world game from the creators of Just Cause

The co-founder of Avalanche and mastermind behind Just Cause has shared the first screenshots from his next game. Created by Liquid Studios the game is set in an open-world and that's about all that was revealed. No name or date just yet (potentially a next-gen title, so PS6/Next Xbox/PC).

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Potentially next gen, who is assuming this, did the devs hint that they will go a decade without releasing it or do you all want the PS6 to be revealed a couple years after PS5 Pro with like 5 AAA games on it that will play better on the 6 acting like a PS5 Pro Pro for its first few years all over again, lol.

The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, whereas Avalanche has historically used its own Apex engine for Just Cause, Mad Max, and Rage 2. Tech Director Fredrik Lönn explained the engine choice with the following statement:

Custom engines were historically the way forward, and that's what my former team at Avalanche did over 18 years ago when development started on Just Cause 1. The landscape has changed since then, and now it's quite the opposite. We decided to go with Unreal Engine 5. Unreal has been proven for high-quality AAA games, both by Epic themselves in the case of Fortnite and by other game studios worldwide shipping amazing games on Unreal. With Epic making improvements toward open-world development, we get full access to the source code, and the integrations with other software and pipelines are excellent.
While those screenshots are indeed very reminiscent of a photorealistic version of Rockstar's GTA series, Liquid Swords is making a single player open world, narrative driven action RPG. We still don't know anything else, but hopefully that will change soon following these first screenshots.

Holiday 2028 is just 4 years from now.

Theyre remastering Robocop Rogue City already?

This lol

Thats what makes me thing this could be current gen.

So, maybe next gen, but we've seen titles like this aka Robocop that indeed look this good. So I want to see more

2 gens to get 1 next gen game now

lol maybe, maybe not.

I don't know the teams personal issues, for all we know they needed to get more funding, make a new team, covid happened etc, maybe they are hedging their best that they can focus on next gen now and release with a massive launch title if hte timing is right.

Ubisoft tried to do that with Watchdogs (which I think was a brilliant idea) and maybe thats what this team is doing. So maybe its only taking this long for other reasons and not really just in development for a whole generation or something

Looking at the screenshots again and there is a bit of the first inFAMOUS game's tone in there.
I don't think the game will be anywhere near GTA or Mafia.

It's good to see fresh, ambitious IP being developed instead of constant remakes and sequels.

I don't see anything that would suggest it would be next gen.
Looks very UE5 current gen
Unless this game is scheduled to come out in 2033, it will 100% be available on current gen consoles. People don't realize the tail this generation will have, especially when Microsoft and Sony release their handheld in next couple years. Next-Gen consoles will play the same games current gen until probably mid 2030's, just with better performance

Looks great, bring it.

And these guys are one of the few developers that try to push as much physics and destruction in their open worlds so that is promising aswell.

Jc4 basically did the fuse mechanic before tokt wasn't even in the balls of his creator.

Looks good, but not too different from Robocop or even Homefront Revolution. But that's because those games already look fantastic.
So, singleplayer narrative RPG in open modern city - gimme. The only ones we have are...Cyberpunk 2077 and that's it.

I think it looks great. Curious what it'll be like. I like the art direction, seems kinda gritty.
Edit: They describe their game like this on their studio page:
We’re working on our first game; a narrative-driven, open-world, hardboiled AAA revenge story, built and developed in Unreal Engine 5.

Finally some realistic and detailed looking setting for a game. Please don’t ruin it with a generic superhero/zombie story and neon glowing UI elements in the game world. I would love to see a game like The Getaway or L.A. Noire in this location.

These unreal engine 5 games they starting to be all too much similar beetween them, more ore less like unreal engine 3 syndrome, that chair is the same chair used in Silent Hill 2, what is the culprit of this ? Assets library not too much varied with assets available ?

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
First thing came to my mind was UE5
I think people have been conditioned into thinking PS4 games at 60fps is current gen and anything above that must be Nextgen PS6.
But really it just a current gen game using current gen tech.

Eh, we have PC games that stomp all over PS4 and 5 games, so that’s definitely not it. 😛
