First Wipeout Pure Review

Gamepro had their Wipeout Pure review for at least a week now. And according to them, Wipeout Pure is developed by Namco!

Sweet, seems like it didn't do a 'Fusion'. Kinda glad it's not THAT fast, the PSP gets a bit messy when things are moving really fast in Ridge Racers. I ordered this today actually, hopefully it'll ship soon :)

Sorry, I meant first real review ;)

I've got this preordered and according to some folks it might ship early. But what good does that do when I won't get my psp till 24th?

I'll just stare at the box I guess :p

Who are they? Everything is credited to "Modojo Staff." :p

If I remember I'll give the backstory later, but I don't have the time right now. The short version is that its a lot of the old (very old) sega dojo/ndojo peeps.

I want this game so bad. And EB didn't get them today; I pre-ordered from ebgames.com and they never received Wipeout or Twisted Metal (they got other titles like NFSU Rivals and Tony Hawk, though), but Gamestop.com did. Time to try a GS store tomorrow...

Same here, and I went through that with the GBA and GCN as well. So it won't be anything new to me.

Gamestop.com, however, did not ship out my copy of Wipeout, Twisted Metal, or even Phantom Dust. Tomorrow will be a day of many callings.

oh man, i hope gamespot: a. has the game and b. will break street date. my psp is sick of playing movies. it needs wipeout. i need wipeout. put out your collective feelers, gafers. i want this early.

and incidentally, f zero gx's speed comes at the expense of narrow tracks, intricate corners, and indeed any semblance of technical racing. i'm not complaining about the score (or reading the review), but that particular point doesn't strike me as "not hot."

Interesting. EBgames DID ship THUG 2 Remix to me today, so I will have that tomorrow. I will be calling around to see if any Gamestop stores get Wipeout or TM tomorrow. Thanks for the heads-up on Phantom Dust, too, I forgot that came out this week. :)

Tomorrow essentially is "street" for a handful of titles -- the GS near me said they'd be getting in the first batch then and would be selling everything.

Bonus for importers!

awesome. i suppose the challenge now will be to avoid buying games i don't want just because they're there. WIPEOUT!

I will be bringing my PSP with me into the store tomorrow if they get the games. Time to be a bitch and show that shit off!! :D

Yeah, that's my biggest problem. I want so many titles just cause...PSP has that power over me.

Haha, when i was at my local mom and pop gamestore a few weeks back, the clerk and a customer were talking about the PSP. I had to fight my temptation to whip the PSP out and freak them out.

Same here. I currently have six games and will have four more by the end of this week. O_o

I've been writing for Nintendojo for the last four years (well, not so much the last two), and I'm wondering who's behind modojo. No one told me about it--maybe it's some of the earlier ditchers.

Still, the site looks good, but can anyone find a contact page with a staff list?

I'm to the point where I'm trying to cut down on titles to buy for stupid reasons, it's getting ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as spending $2-300 on games in one shot. TM and Mercury are the only titles on lock, I might just rent the others. Chances are I'll get one more title on top of those two, what that is is in the hands of GAF impressions. DON'T LET ME DOWN GAF!

Ok, I know my gaming time will be pretty much filled up by Lumines and Wipeout, but every video I've seen of Untold Legends has been sweet.

I'm still approaching that title with some skepticism, but I cannot deny that I'm always down for some hack'n'slash. The game looks good.

I'll wait for a handful of reviews before plunging, but it's looking pretty good right now.

I hope my EB breaks the street date on any game they get early. Wipeout would certainly be most welcome. I'm assuming these people reviewing the game have played it in it's fastest "viper" class or whatever it's called. Still not fast enough?

Modojo is perfectly reliable. They used to be Segadojo, Cloudchaser, XenGamers, XenGen, Cloudchaser again, and now Modojo.

I frequent their message boards; great group of guys. Rest assured, this is reliable.

Heh, that's the sole reason I pre-ordered these games online. I had a similar problem with EB refusing to give me the Xbox games I PAID FOR when they got them early before the launch. They were like "why do you want them when Xbox isn't out yet?" Never mind that we had a system at work I could play on, I paid for them so they should have given the games. :P I managed to convince them to give me PGR early, at least.

That's what I was wondering. Or was this a 10 minute review? :P

You know what would make these racers (WP/RR) 10x better? Fucking online play, racers without it suck. I know this has Ad-Hoc, but none of my cheap ass friends are buying a PSP, so what use do these racers have to me, 1 player mode is fun for up to a week. Then I'll never touch these again. They're fun titles I'm sure, but Online in at least one of them would have sold me one getting a racer at launch.

For example, I love Twisted Metal but I was scared that there would be no longevity after playing through the one player mode (before they announced online), after that announcement it made it a must buy. Games of this nature need online play IMO. Either that or I need to get some wealthier friends :P

Yeah, the online play is the main reason I'm getting Twisted Metal. I have wireless in my house, and the thought of being able to play online on a portable system from anywhere inside is awesome! :)

I've had several chances to do so, but always hesitated. Finally showed it to some EB clerks last weekend; they were FREAKING OUT. But one of them hogged the system (he actually pulled AWAY from me when he couldn't figure something out and I said I'd show him) when I let them try it and got the screen all dirty, so I won't be letting anyone try it again. I've never seen someone get a screen so dirty in several minutes of play time. I thought he erased my Ridge Racers game save, too, but it was still there when I reloaded.

Sorry, would have been more accurate to say Segadojo guys. GamerFeed/Cloudchaser guys.

Edit: As for the there being no contact page, authors, etc., that's because the site is in beta. Its the Modojo Preview, as the logo clearly states ;) Sections are being implemented one by one, and I think its expected to be finished in a couple weeks.

As for the 4 out of 5, its a 5 star scale with no half stars. So that doesn't mean that the one complaint about not being up to F-Zero speeds means it got knocked to a 4. It just means the reviewer didn't think it deserved a 5. Mo would like to just not give scores, but you can't get away with that, so a 5 star scale with no halves is the close as they can get. People need to make up their own mind about games based on what they see in the review text, and put less emphasis on final scores.

I had a similiar experience - showed it to the guy at GameRush and he started calling people over. Took me forever to get out of there.

Impressive, looks like a preview disguised as a review. Not that it is, but heck it doesn't say anything more than we already know.
