What makes you think he was off steroids last year? He didn't come under fire for steroids until the end of this past season (the middle of October). There was absolutely no reason why he would have stopped taking steroids until then.

Personally, I think it is extremely likely that he he was juiced last year. He was as big as ever, his skull was as big as ever (bigger skull size is one of the leadiing indicators of steroid use), etc. His power was still there. And really, there was no reason why he would have stopped using it. And as the Balco testimony told us, the stuff he was taking was undetectable.

Smoltz - hasn't been a starter since '99 and hasn't made a full season of starts since '97.

Beckett - hasn't even thrown 180 innings in a single season yet and there is no indication that his blister problem has been solved.

Clemens - age 42. Amazing as he is he won't repeat last year and I wouldn't be comfortable betting on his health at this point.

Rogers - age 40. Mediocrity is his ceiling.

I think the trade to get Pujols is a good idea. Considering, who knows how Beltre will do in Safeco. Also since he's coming off his FIRST real good year.

Also being the Mariner's fan that I am, I say keep an eye on Gil Meche and Joel Pinero. Those two have electric stuff, and with a better defense behind them this year, they could have great years.
