I prefer Gaiares because of the weapons system, which is pretty novel but not gimmicky.

That being said, seeing that flame stage for the first time in TFIII was one of my more mind-blowing experiences in gaming.

Gaiares had a pretty good soundtrack I still remember the thumping bass on the first level my friend had his genny hooked up to his stereo system

TF4 I slept on (think I sold my Genesis by the time it was out). Been playin' it on XBOX via MAME and it's sweet as hell.

That huge golden dragon in one of the levels in GAIARES was amazing to me as a young child! I have to give the nod to GAIARES messed up name though! Those wacky japanese!!! :lol

Never played much of Gaiares, but I never got into it the little I played it. I definitely should check it out some more. I do like Thunder Force 3. It's very polished. It's very easy too, though. A lot of people say it's the best Thunder Force, but I'd disagree. I like TF4 more.

GREAT matchup - but gotta give it to Thunderforce 3. The fire level was an awesome, but I remember lovin the snow level - where you climb vertical on the side of a mountain.

I agree with Lightening Force aka TF4 being the best Genesis shooter.

My fave Genny shooter was probably:

Burning Force, a Space Harrier clone. I played the heck outta that.


I also loved a pseudo-shooter called Bimini Run, where you shot people from a motorboat, but there was more of an adventure aspect to that.

TFIII is king, and Gaiares is still hella overrated. And annoying to play! ^_^

And just to be crazy, TFIII >>>>>>>>>> TFV > TFIV > TFII.
