Do any of you F1 racing guys know about this?
The track is like a block away from my house.
Is this going to be cool or what?

Champ car as in Indy cars..

In the US, it used to be one indy car series called CART....

That split up into two leagues, IRL (Indy Racing League) and the Champ Car World Series...

Formula One is international, IRL/Champ car is (basically) a US series *BUT* Champ car has some venues outside of the US (Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal, South Korea, Australia, Mexico
City) as does the IRL (Motegi Japan,)

F1 is much more international than IRL or Champcar, though...

I had heard of the posibility of a New York GP but that it was losing its appeal to the men in suits.

Either way I would quite like F1 to move its US GP away from Indy to somewhere else, it has never been the most exciting of races imo (but that could be said of F1 as a whole at the minute; too much focus on slowing cars down, decreasing costs, adding retarded rules (1 tire rule anyone? same engine over 2 races?), changing qualifying to meaningles formats that have lost all appeal except to advertisers when there was nothing wrong the way it was), stupid old men trying to look important, the list goes on.)

Thanks for the clarification Klee.

I think driving Indy cars through the streets of San Jose will definitely be exciting to watch.

no that's a champ car race. there will be more than 6 cars on the field.

With Champ Cars' state these days you have to wonder about that.

But it's a fun event to watch, especially in the streets. The Toronto Molson Indy was my first auto race weekend last year, and it was a lot of fun. Gonna get a three day paddock pass this year so I can walk down pit lane and get a close look at the mechanics doing their thing.

Plus an auto race is a total magnet for hot chicks...I was flabbergasted at how many hotties I saw last year. It just adds to the atmosphere. :lol

Someone didn't get the joke... :lol
no i was pointing out that even the sad little champ car series can field more cars than the "each team budgets hundreds of millions a year" f1 series

isnt IRL mostly ovals as opposed to Champ's circuits?

Yeah, that's the primary distinction...Champ Car has the most varied circuit layout of any high level racing series with permanent road courses, street courses and a couple of ovals.

They need to find a way to reunite sooner or later...don't think IRL is in any hurry though with Danica mania going on.
