Can't wait to see all the changes this brings since it's now been made with Unreal 5 & PS5/XSX in mind.

FUCK yes does this mean Flood/lotsa water again?!?!

Literally me and most of my squad's very favorite thing they've ever done (played most of Chap 2 and some of Chap 1).

If this brings back the flood we will be very, very happy!

Has it really been made with PS5 and XSX in mind?
Would really surprise me they wouldn't compromise with something that worked well in PS4, Switch and mobile, which are the platforms where I expect most users to be

I really wish I actually enjoyed the gameplay in Fortnite.

What they have made with all these cool world changing events is really awesome, and I can't really think of many games that do similar stuff (I guess MMO's, but it's too much of a time investment and you are usually tied to a monthly fee too on top of having to buy expansions)

i only play now and then but a while ago (last season i think) there was an ingame item that created an area of low gravity or some shit. there were rumours that Epic was using this as a way to test and get feedback on underwater gameplay. i dont know if this map will have lots of water but that's just what i thought of when i read your comment. maybe there was something in that rumor and we could get underwater gameplay this season.

no. PS5/XSX don't do anything special so i don't see why Epic would.

there was probably a bit of marketing saying how fast the new console SSDs were and how Unreal Engine makes use of that but there is no way Epic is focusing on just those consoles. there is no doubt a lot of people will be playing on them. when it comes to speed PS5 does like 5.5GB/s and Xbox 2.5GB/s on their SSDs but PC currently does something like 7.1GB/s and theoritically right now could do up to 14.2GB/s. the drives aren't here but if they were you could slap one in your PC right now and get those speeds. if Epic wanted to focus on SSD speed then they'd build Unreal Engine with PC in mind but that's silly to focus on just PC.

so all that really happened (probably) is Epic don't need to worry about slow mechanical drives anymore except maybe for PS4/XB1 but SSD speeds are so much faster than HDD that even the Switch will benefit from Unreal Engine update and PS5/XSX will see significant improvements by moving to SSD. the PS4/XB1 are so outdated and with the PS5/XSX having faster storage and some support for raytracing it doesn't hold Epic back as much when building Unreal Engine 5. these consoles are gonna be here for the next 7-8 years and less and less people will stay on PS4/XB1. gives Epic more freedom.

Its quite impressive this game lasted this long. Most shooter games aside of big boys, dies with in 1 year.

Guess putting crafting mode in a shooter game, does wonders to your game.

I have taken Monday off just for this. Lol.

Mobile Fortnite really needs to go it's own separate way, I agree Switch etc are holding innovation back.

I think they will make it on UE4 or some UE5lite so ot runs on all the last gens/mobile and they will do an ok UE5 version for PC/current gen console, but it wont be a huge difference.

Things like Ray-Tracing, additional effects and hopefully further improved loading speeds are certainly possible.

UE5 is designed to be incredibly scalable, down to cell phones. There's no reason UE5 can't be used for last-gen.

It's just going to, like every game, have different levels of detail on different devices, different features turned on/off.

But many of the core UE5 features, like their geometry system, are designed specifically to scale.

This.
Even the infamous UE5 demo was said to be heavily scalable across systems.

It will be built with features not possible on last-gen systems.
Would you say Skirim aniversary was made with XSX and PS5 on mind? Because that also has features not possible on last-gen systems. Again, that's what you weren't implying on the first post but let's keep it here

Would you say Skyrim Anniversary was rebuilt with a brand new map, on a brand new engine?

A map and an engine that needs to work, not only on next gen consoles, but also in much less powerful devices. Thinking they have made them with only next gen consoles in mind is crazy. All essential features will work everywhere. If there's something that don't it will be minor things. That's not what I'd say "a map and engine built with ps5 and xsx on mind" but that might be just me

Graphics, textures, everything is scalable.
That's been one of UE5's major selling points.
Like the UE5 demo, it can be built with PS5 in mind, and still scale down to mobile phones.

So you agree that if they think about an engine having to work on much less powerful machines it's not done only with PS5 and xsx in mind. That's what you seemed to imply in your initial post

They don't need to worry about the lower systems, that's where the scalability comes in.

Did it look like the UE5 demo was built for mobiles in mind?

This game is extremely cool but the building gameplay pushes me back. Especially if you're playing with a controller - but I have managed to win some games without any building.

I like Fortnite except the building aspect of it. Don't focus too much on it and you'll enjoy it.

I quit at the beginning of chapter 2 and for some reason came back in the last few weeks. This map sucks so I'm glad they're doing a revamp.

I limit myself to just a match or two a day and I'm definitely not getting my bank card out this time. It's a fun game but it deserves all the criticism.
