The game was released on Friday, I have finally had the chance to play through the game a bit. It is definately very very impressive. First of all the sounds, shit, they're just amazing. Every change you make with the engine has an impact on the sound. Especially playing from 1st person, with a 5.1 system will just blow you away.

Playing around with the cars is a lot of fun, I bought a modena and installed a turbocharger on it, along with more engine modifications, giving it around 750hp, and fixing the gear ratios it can go to 370+km/h easily. With that much power though, the car feels like an out of control beast. I don't know how realistic this is (to modify the modena to 750hp+), but damned if it's not extremely fun. It seems that you can take most of the crappiest cars and pump the engines up considerably. The class system balances it all out somehow.

The graphics are great with detailed cars and background and 30fps doesn't feel like a problem at all, there is a great sense of speed.

The game seems really deep, with each car having very unique characteristics, and I haven't even gone online yet.. This seems to be the game I'll be playing all month. Easily my game of the year so far.

The quality and variety of sound in the game really hit hard yesterday, literally. I modded up a Corrado SLC as best as I could and still keep it in D-class. Surprisingly, it still hung at D1 even with a couple exhaust upgrades....

Anyway, I take it on the track and holy hell, the wide-open exhaust was ear-splittingly realistic. Awesome, but then I actually had to turn the volume down to avoid a headache.

speaking of which, would you recomend a 5.1 system for gaming, how many games actually use it (alot)? im poor so would a cheapo set be worth it...

5.1 makes a huge difference, and ALL xbox games support 5.1, some better than others obviously.. but it makes the gaming experience much nicer. Get a receiver with an optical in and some 5.1 speaker set, anything by pioneer, yamaha , sony etc. should be good, i'm not an expert in these, but i have a pioneer vsx-c100 and sony 5.1 speakers, the receiver is only 5x30W but that's quite powerful actually and i'm more than happy with it..
