Forza FF wheel not true FF. shock/horror/disgust

this is no confirmation. that may not even be the wheel they are working on. it would stand to reason that lady would not be able to use their upcoming FF wheel since it would still be in design phase.

this is just a 3rd party wheel she was using in a demonstration, so lets not jump to so many conclusions.

Why is MS so focking stupid.

How can you have a GT killer or anything that approaches it if you don't have a console that can support a force feedback wheel?

How can you have a GT killer or anything that approaches it if the game doesn't run at 60fps?

How can you have a GT killer or anything that approaches it if you can't outclass the competitions graphically inferior ((marginally for XS+) ) console.

How can you have a GT killer or anything that approaches it if you don't have a product that makes the most ardent GT fanboy say HOLY MOTHER FOCKER, I got to have that.

Meet the Fockers. They live in Redmond. This should of been built for Xenon.

Since the wheels simulates FF, I have to ask... wtf is the difference between a wheel that simulates FF and a wheel using true FF? I mean, it's a game... everything is simulated.

I used to anticipate this game, I even carried the hope deep in my heart that it would whup GT4's arse. I had plans I wanted to be the biggest forza fanboy, even bigger than morpheis who's running around with that biass link to forzacentral in his sig. I even made this for God's sake!

http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=263067&

But then the enthusiasm dropped as more became known about the game, until my pet project Forza uberthread fell into abandon, even LONG before I had to resort getting rid of the xdude.

In the PC realm (so, I'm guessing this is the same deal), fake FF is just simple vibration like a PS2 or GC controller. True FF attempts to simulate the actual feeling of driving over different surfaces. For example, on icy roads, the wheel's tension will decrease sharply to simulate tire slip, and deep mud or snow will cause the wheel to fight and jerk as you slip in and out of ruts. It's a much better simulation than simple vibration.

here's the product description...

Bring Xbox Racing to a new level with the power of Force Feedback and Vibration.
The precise sensors and the advanced TUNING features makes it the ultimate controller for any Xbox racing game.
Challenge your opponents online and use your Xbox Live Communicator to hear their frustration.

sounds like FF to me.

afaik, no it doesn't. it has a couple versions of the MkII and MkII, but no MkI. Sega GT had the MkI, and 60 fps, and I wans't as jaded back then. Thank you PGR2 for turning me into such a hopeless cynic

I hope isamu doesn't mind me pasting this here. I got it from xblracing.com.

**STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSES MOUTH***

My good friend Tom who works for the Logitech Wingman team was kind enough to shed some light on the current situation regarding their lack of development on an FF wheel. Below...
================

"Hello Isamu,

Long time no speak, indeed. I remember you... hope everything is alright with you, too.

Of course we would like to do a true FF wheel for the Xbox. Initially, Microsoft was totally uninterested and told us that if we can show 10 developers who are interested, they might consider it. Well, we rounded up those developers, and yet the whole thing went oozing on. At one point, we were talking to them about how this could be done; they seemed to be fishing for ideas without comitting to anything.

The problem, for us, is not really to make a wheel that would work. The problem is that the games need to support it; since the Xbox development environment doesn't really lend itself to "middleware" (like what we do for the PS2), we have to have Microsoft support this on their end, too. If they are not comitted to doing so, we can't force them to

Recently, all indications point to Microsoft having essentially abandoned anything new for the Xbox. It appears that they are working 100% on "next gen", which would be Xbox2 or whatever it's called when it comes out. Their interested in coming up with *anything* new for the existing platform has dropped down to zero...

So, to summarize - it doesn't look good for having a true FF wheel on the Xbox. Who knows, maybe we can get them to do that (or allow us to do it) for the Xbox2, but I wouldn't keep up my hopes for anything on the current platform. Sorry to disappoint you...

Eventually one needs to remind oneself that "it's just a game", and realign priorities on what else one does in life.

Have a good week (or end of weekend ,

"Thanks for the candid reply Tom. That's sheds a lot of light on things. It's really too bad that we live in a world where game companies make the almighty $$ their top priority. But alas, this is all about business afterall, as well as politics to a certain degree. Oh well, what can you do. I can only hope that Sega thinks about putting the code in anyway, just in case you know, someone die hard like myself decides to spend big money to a third party person to develop a custom PC to Xbox adaptor that recognizes any PC FF wheel. Surely that can be done with enough time and resources, no? Talk to you later man"

Several sites are selling USB adapter cables for XBOX (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=83&products_id=2154).
According to those sites, it's possible to use any USB device on XBOX if the software supports it when the devices are connected via that cable .
If that info is true, the only thing that is missing is software to handle FF wheels
since FF wheels are USB devices.

The developers has mentioned several times that they are working on getting a force feedback wheel for Forza.

I think that considering the game is one of the last Xbox gems that should have been expected. They are not going to release a special perifeal that only supports one game at that point of the system's lifetime.
A pity of course if the game is the definitve sim some claim...

Doesn't have FF? What a waste! This game will be crap.

PS. What is FF?

Final Fantasy

But in the context of the thread I assume it's Force Feedback.

I've given up on xbox. Haven't touched my system since september. three years since xbox launched and no decent wheel to date. fuck 'em. bring on xenon, which I'm certain will have games that support FF as well as great FF wheels to accompany them.

Xenon can wait.
I am content with this generation and would like it to last longer.
Xenon can waaaaaaaaait.....Xenon can ! weeeeeee Xenon can !

Obviously MS doesn't think as you. I doubt they'll change their plans which is sad since this gen could run for a year more.

Oh well, Ce La'Vi.

How old is that info ?

That info is from Logitech.
Maybe Microsoft are working with other force feedback wheel manufacturer(s).

This is a quote from one Forza developer interview 2 weeks ago:

"With such a realistic physics and handling engine a force feedback wheel would be great for Forza. Any plans?

Kiki Wolfkill: There's definitely things in the works that we haven't solidified yet. We appreciate that a force feedback wheel is the best way to experience a game like Forza and it's certainly something we're working on from a partnership standpoint."

(see news section Friday 3rd December )

The force feedback wheel can be used on XBOX 2 if it has USB ports (the controller ports
on XBOX are USB ports).
