Canadians will soon have access to the "Fair and Balanced" broadcasts of Rupert Murdoch's Fox News.

In a decision released Thursday, the CRTC argued that "there is substantial demand in Canada for Fox News." It will be available to digital subscribers as early as next year.

Rejecting complaints about the station's "alleged ... ideological slant" the CRTC decided against imposing any extra conditions on Fox News.

The CRTC said that it had received 531 statements supporting Fox and only 82 opposed. But, to what extent the station's admittedly conservative views will be welcomed in Canada remains to be seen.

The Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association applied to the CRTC in April for permission to carry Fox News to Canadians with digital cable, satellite or wireless television service.

The CCTA said Thursday they were pleased with the decision, saying Fox "provides Canadians with a different perspective on world events," and "is an excellent complement to the current Canadian digital line-up."

The NFL Network also got the OK Thursday. The network carries live sports, game previews, news conferences and other shows about the National Football League.

I wish Fox SportsWorld was on basic cable...they've got soccer out the yin yan (not that TSN and Rogers Sportsnet have been bad for that). Fox News being available doesn't bother me at all...if people want their news with a conservative slant, then good for them. I'd rather see people be given the option to choose then have some overwrought TV commision coming down on everyone's ass like a poker stick.

Yeah, FOX Sportsworld is the greatest channel ever if you're a soccer fan. I really wish I didn't need to dish out $170 just to spend $1.50 a month to receive it. :\
