Free cd buring software like DirectCD or InCD?

Are there any free software programs available that are like DirectCD or InCD, which enable a CD-RW to support draging and dropping of files? It's for someone at work and I need a legit copy since the buring software that came with their new laptop doesn't have such a program. It's needed for daily backup. Cheers!

You mean the drivers that let your PC treat the CD-RW like a floppy? Usually that's called packet-writing software. Isn't that usually burner-specific? Does the laptop vendor have the s/w available from their web site?

Yeah that's what I need. I don't think it's burner-specific is it? Because you can buy full retail versions of Nero or Easy Media Creator that come with InCD/DirectCD right? I forget which burning software came with the laptop. The laptop is part of the Toshiba Tecra A3/S2 series. I'll check their site I guess. I'll get back to you with when I find out what software it comes with.

I don't recommend packing-writing software. Heard many stories of it ruining RW dics.. both cd & dvd.

Yeap, also you have to have that same packet writing software installed on the second computer in order for it to read and copy to that computer. If you have XP you can just drag and drop onto a Cd with out using any packet writing software. It will read in any computer running XP, not sure on computers not running XP.

Yeah I've had a DVD-RW where I used InCD and one day it just corrupted the DVD and it showed no files whatsoever on it. Packet-writing software is convient though, especially for non-tech ppl (which this lady is) as it keeps buring to CD simple and easy. It's also a pain to have to reformat a cd/dvd everytime you want to add something to it or change update something that's already on there.

Yeah that's the setup I'm getting her to use at the moment but she got annoyed when she couldn't just delete one folder that was on the CD and also add another one without reformatting the CD. How do I explain that this process is better then when she was using InCD?

On her old computer we had a batch file that she would run and that used xcopy to backup the folders/files to a CD-RW. She could then easily add or delete any additional things if necessary. Can't use the same batch file without some kind of packet-writing software and now she has to manually select each folder and drag it to the CD and use WinXPs built in buring software.
