Hey, I'm just wondering how effective online virus scans really are... I've been without NAV (what I used before) for quite a while. Never contracted a virus before, and I'm pretty safe in my internet use...

...still, paranoid enough to check every once in a while. Generally, I use Trend Micro's online scan.

Are these scans going to be sufficient to diagnose trouble?

Mcafee Free scan

i use both trend micro and mcafee. they've each picked up on some small things that the other missed.

If you decide you would rather have an antivirus program on your computer rather then just having online scans then I suggest getting AVG. ive been using it for a month or so and its great and 100% Free! It even updates the Virus definetions almost every day and has real time protection and checks email attatchments as well.

Make sure you have at least any antivirus on your pc to prevent things from happening. Even a crap one is far better than nothing. At least it will protect you from stuff you might download or if you are unlucky.

There is no perfect anti-virus so I recommend using different scanners each time. Different ones can pick up different stuff that others might miss.
