i agree ad-aware works great, spy bot i have not tried but will, and if u happen to have sbc yahoo dsl, use their free spyware remover. that one works great also

Moreover, recently I was reading some tests done with commercial programs and they did not work as well as ad-aware and spybot. There are one or two other programs which might work decently, but running both those two should give you all the protection you need. Make sure you run both, because they complement eachother well. Spybot also has a nice "immunize" feature that blocks some recurring spyware.

I've found that the best protection against practically all spyware and junk has been to switch to Firefox, myself. When I was using IE, AdAware would pick up around 30-50 random pieces of spyware a week. Most of them were tracking cookies, but there were a few other random things that would slip through.

Ever since I switched over to Firefox, though, the amount of junk that AdAware has had to clean up has really dropped off. I usually scan once every few months now, and find between 0-2 items.

Do you have Ad-aware SE? If you still have 6.0 you should upgrade.

New browser fixes everything. Either download Opera or Firefox and you'll probably never have spyware again. Still need to scan once a month for those lonely sites which only work with IE

Spyware Blaster is excellent used in combination with either Spybot or Ad-aware (or both). Spybot and Ad-aware should be used for checking and removing of spyware and Spyware Blaster is excellent for preventing it in the first place.

Unlike Ad-Aware and many other programs that block spyware, Spyware Blaster doesn't have to be run in the background. You just run the program and then close it!
