I've got Ad-Aware and Spybot, but I don't believe those will detect the more nefarious trojans that might be packaged into certain downloads. Are there any free programs out there that can detect such things, or is it usually a matter of never knowing until it hits you?

Unfortunately, as part of the terms of living on-campus, we're required to use the bloatware that is Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, so I'm not sure installing an entirely new AV software over top of that would work out that well.
