• We demand that Windows 7 be released as free software. Its life doesn't have to end. Give it to the community to study, modify, and share.
• We urge you to respect the freedom and privacy of your users - not simply strongarm them into the newest Windows version.
• We want more proof that you really respect users and user freedom, and aren't just using those concepts as marketing when convenient.

Why dont you make your own OS then ? Oh wait, you have one, but you do not have any trust in it.

Here, they asked you to use Free Software instead of Windows 7 because of

7. Threatening user security ...

Now, they suddenly need Windows 7 because Free Software like GNU/Linux is no longer an alternative.

I for one cannot afford a new windows software app for my personal computer that I do my tax work and watch cat videos on. Avocado toast is expensive.

What's the issue? This probably won't happen, but would only be a positive for all of us if it did. A massive amount of human labor went into windows 7, I'm sure those devs would want it to benefit the most people possible.

If the argument is that we're in a capitalist society and there isn't enough benefit for microsoft to release it, then cool, they don't have to. It's not like they're getting sued or something.

Also, the absolute logic of "they want windows 7, so linux is garbage" is nonsensical.

Now, they have sent a hard drive to Microsoft HQ because they think they are entitled to own the source code for Windows 7. They desperately need the source code of the same Windows 7 they hated so much for relevance.

Careful what you wish for. MS in recent years actually is going open source on many its aplications as it sees profit in subs not in 1 time purchases and in that model it doesn't make sense to play russian rullete with someone else replacing your software with open source or something else.

Basically same thing Google did with android.

They are not yet at the moment thinking about Windows but it is only matter of time,

Jesus Christ Window 10 is free if you have 8 or 10, they never stopped the free upgrade and they've made it abundantly clear that they're taking the OSX route of continually upgrading the same OS since the foundation is so much better. Just move already, if they were going to replace it we'd have seen/heard about betas for 11 by now.
