What the hell happened to Rodney Dangerfield?
no way that's not really him....is it?

So, how much distribution are they getting? The PR makes it sound like the digital satellite thing they're hooked up with can get them into most major cable providers.

If so, I do believe they have trumped ADV.

They have Bakuretsu Tenshi (Burst Angel), Grappler Baki, Basilisk, Detective Conan (Case Closed), Dragon Ball & Spin-offs, Blue Gender, Full Metal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, Gunslinger Girl, Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha), Kiddy Grade, a few Lupin movies and specials, Sakura Wars 3 and Sakura Wars: Sumire Retirement OVAs, Samurai 7, Speed Grapher, Spiral, Sunabouzu, Tenchi Muyo! Ryoohki OVAs, Tenchi Muyo GXP, Galaxy Railways, Trinity Blood and Yu-Yu Hakusho. And that's just their exclusive licenses!

They also distribute Beyblade, Kirby, Sonic X, Kinnikuman Ni-sei (Ultimate Muscle) and Shaman King.

So they've got a bunch of stuff, more new stuff than ADV has, in any case! ha ha ha anime network sucks.

Hopefully, they'll open up to putting stuff from Geneon or Viz that aren't on Cartoon Network on the air, and for a price less than Cartoon Network's exorbitant fee (at least, I've heard from industry peoples that it's very very very high). And maybe they'll dub more episodes of Conan! TO DREAM!

And it's trouble for ADV's Anime Network maybe although I have no idea what the distributor for their stuff is! If it's On-Demand also, it's trash! I've been wondering about ADV lately... what's the deal? After EVA they were all on top of the US anime world! And then they didn't do anything for years aside from Ninja Resurrection, Cromartie, Azumanga Daioh and 10-years-too-late DNA^2. Maybe someone who lives in Houston can... CLARIFY?

Unedited probably will happen, since it's satellite.

And about voice-acting... I've always wondered why no one's bothered using SAP for Japanese Audio + subtitles. I remember seeing Big Trouble in Little China on TV in Japan, and being amazed that when using SAP, english dialogue and subtitles popped up! And then another press of the button... and it went to Japanese audio! It was AMAZING!!!! And it seems pretty simple. Not that I really know the logistics of such an endeavor.

ADV didn't do DNA^2, CPM did.

ADV actually has a ton of licenses they're sitting on I think. We've argued in some of my usual circles that they've actually licensed too much material and is releasing stuff way too slow. They've been on top of the industry since Evangelion though and it's only been recently that they've slipped up although sales may not actually show that.

Oh! I know why Cartoon Network doesn't do it. They don't have the equipment to do SAP. I doubt they'd be willing to spend the money on it just for anime, because it doesn't bring in as many viewers as the comedy does already. Besides, because of "edits," many (if not most) hardcore fans refuse to watch anime on TV anyway. So what good would it really do them? (Answer: not much.)

Oh really? Hm, I was just looking at ANN for that list, ha.

ADV's been slow for years and years though. The lag between them licensing and releasing Arc the Lad, Orphen and their other late 90's-early 00's acquisitions was ridiculous... their big brochure of upcoming titles had the same stuff "coming soon!" three years in a row, which I found quite humorous!

It's not just ADV, the entire North American anime industry is in a corrective down turn after everyone went out and bought everything and anything from Japan.

I'm sure it'll be like every cable/satellite channel in its first year: 3 hours or so of original programming repeated 3x every day, and the rest is infomercials.

ADV's turn around was decent in the late 90s. It's just their turn around as of late that's been extremely slow (as is the entire industry in general due to some really dumb moves as mantra points out). Arc The Lad for example was a quick turn around as I recall was licensed in 2000 and first released in 2001.

Is CN compatible with the SAP thing?

How do you know this is the format they will be using?

I wanted an Adult Swim channel... :(

What animes do Funimation have?
At current rates of growth I estimate that by 2015 Adult Swim will have taken over the entire Cartoon Network schedule. By 2025 it will somehow have 170% of the schedule.
