According to the Hollywood Reporter, Comcast, G4's owner, is in final negotiations with Paramount Domestic Television, the unit of Viacom which owns the license. The trade also said that the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation will begin airing on G4 on January 8, 2006, with the original Star Trek series beginning in the second quarter.

I just do not get the G4 hate. Regardless of whether you like the network or not, if it fails it is bad news for videogame based tv programming. If G4 dies it'll be a decade before anyone tries a gaming orientated cable channel again. And in the mean time my other options are... oh wait, that's right. There are no other options. And don't give me any of that "it's so bad having nothing would be better" crap. I personally quite like getting fullscreen, direct-feed gameplay trailers on my TV everyday. If you don't like, it don't watch it.

I remember that was more about them bringing more non-gaming Icons into the spectrum in addition to the regular stuff. Now it's like they are going for a full-blown driven/cribs type of format. The writer they fired was trying to be positive saying, "just give the new show a chance" which in G4 terms means it will be godawful. There probably will be some interesting subjects, but I don't think there will be anything 'Iconic' about most of these people.
Yeah, and I'll never get the, "Oh you guys need to just be grateful..." garbage either. Alot of us complain because we want better and we know G4 can do better, not for the sheer sake of hating. Even though you trivialized it, the nothing is better than G4 rationale is pretty fair because what good is a gaming channel you can only watch three or four shows on and now not even that? As for footage, what great footage is that? All I ever see are completely hacked up game trailers spliced with loud hosts and shitty techno music. Cinematech comes in handy for footage sometimes, but even then it's all just a joke once you realize what they did to the real trailers.

Face it, just because G4 is only gaming channel(if you can even call it that now) on television does not mean its fucking good...cause it not! If anything, people on GAF should be offened because its content reflects what these people think of you. I'm sorry, I don't think its flattering. As far as programming that I think right think reflects our culture in an intelligent way, thats the 1up show...thats not hype, its the fucking truth

G4 needs to hunt down and air episodes of Video Power, the gaming tips and trivia show (turned game show) that was all the rage back in the late 80's. Remember the thick Acclaim partnership? Remember how every kid ended up going home with Astyanax? How about the host, Johnny Arcade?

G4 on the other hand was some dumbass execs in a room somewhere going "Durrrrr, there's liek 50 million gamers out there, ,let's make tv channel that ALL OF THEM WILL WATCH". If the G4 people had grown a brain and gone the niche route when they bought out TechTv (instead of just doing it to kill the competition) then a channel which had TechTV content in the morning/afternoon, G4 stuff for the after school slots, some tech news type show for the dinner hour and then thrown some anime/sci-fi/'edgy game review show' in for the late night crowd would have created a healthy all purpose geek television channel that would have been getting advertising revenue from a variety of different places and had enough content to not descend into re-run, syndication hell.
G4 dying would kill the prospects of a tech channel for a decade or so? Give me a break the prospects of a tech only channel has already died. G4 killed it. Frankly there might never be one because the TV universe is going to be radically different in 10 years time. TechTv was the golden chance, thanks for screwing it up G4!

Oh well, can't say I'm surprised. How many "OMG TEH BEST OF..." shows can you do? Diane's a good host, but the content was getting pretty boring. G4 in general's getting pretty boring - the line between it and SpikeTV is steadily bluring. The network just doesn't seem to know who it wants to appeal to and I really don't see it lasting much longer. I like to catch AOTS now and then, but really think the show should be bumped down to 30 minutes as even its growing stale. It's a shame, I think G4 could've been something great.
Most of my comment was aimed at the other shows, but I've noticed when it comes to new upcoming titles your presentations are a little "lacking" compared to the original sources of the footage. Although aside from the music, most of the montages are alright, when it comes to showing off new games I'm interested in, I would seriously rather download or stream huge trailers and game footage than count on you guys to ever give any title the serious play it deserves. It's all flashy summaries with no depth, just like everything on G4, but hey that's just my opinion.p01ar said:

Even though G4 is a failure, those suits know gaming is still a huge business worth getting into and if anything, G4 would be the ultimate newbie guide on exactly what not to do. In 10 years, with the way online media is constantly evolving and becoming as accessible as it is awesome "tv" as we know it won't be the same. Consering the role 1up.com is on, in just 3 years they could be the G4 we've all been praying for and since they will be on the net we all can enjoy their content plus god knows how many other sites will be airing awesome stuff online.

What G4 needs to is focus on fucking gaming again. And they don't need to make it "hip". Seriously, stop treating your audience like mouthbreathing degenerates. I fucking hate G4 for ignoring machinima technology and I hate Kevin for his ignorant ass jokes about it's obscurity. We could have so many awesome shows based on so many great games, but it's all just a joke to these clowns. I can understand why alot of people hated Portal, but I also enjoyed it alot. I wish they would put this and Icons on dvd.
