For those of you not "privy to the newest shit," Soma's design for Castlevania DS is horrid. (Pictured below)

The art of Castlevania was always a big selling point for me, and if the game comes out with this art in the booklet and that character portrait, I'll hold off on buying it until something else convinces me to get a DS.

I'd like to see what the creative minds here can come up with. Maybe we'll try to coordinate a poll and a petition or an insulting e-mail to Konami or something, but for now it's just for fun.

I don't think it's the design as much as it is how it is drawn and how it is colored.

That is indeed the BISHOJO KAWAII ^_~ Soma we're going to redesign, not my design. I'm actually a little offended, Zap.

Hell, even some sarcastic designs wold be great. Photoshopping some leather chaps on him or something.

Well, I planned on buying a DS for this. If they use that art then I'll hold off on the DS until something else comes out that I really want and buy Castlevania then. I'll buy it either way, it's just a matter of when based on the art. Magna Carta is proof that art can sell games, but it works both ways (for me, at least).

I don't see how the art in the manual has an effect on the game itself, but whatever...

I will admit to thinking the eyes look like Prince of Tennis or something, but I don't play the manual or the box, so it doesn't matter much to me.

It's not about being masculine, it's good art vs. bad art. It's generic anime art vs. a very detailed, beautiful painting. I know there are plenty of GAFfers capable of much better than the current character design.

I think Soma of Aria of Sorrow looked like a big poofta, more so than any previous Castlevania hero, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't dissuade me from checking out the game at first. (Still a fine game, however.)

This new design, though, looks pretty good to me. He looks like a Robotech character, yes, but he looks good.
