Hey all, I am in the market for a new book, something fun, something exciting. Just to give you an idea of what I am looking for. I loved all of Dan Brown's novels. So you know what I like. Anyway, I found this book on amazon, and I was wondering if anyone read it:

Also, was wondering if anyone was reading this, it came out just a few days ago:

I read a gushing article about The Historian that was praising the book to no end. Said it was smarter and better put together than DaVinci Code (haven't read either although I read Angels&Demons)

Funny how many novels seem to be coming out along the same lines of the Dan Brown thrillers.

I also saw the author of another book called "The Third Secret" being interviewed on tv recently. The book is along similar lines to the DaVinci code type thriller. It's based on the 3 secrets from the Fatima visions in Portgual. Sounds like it might be interesting.

You need to read Foucault's Pendulum and The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco, immediately.

I was just about to say that before I scrolled down to your comment. I just started Rose and it is really good.

It's also drier than the Atlantic Ocean, larger than an up quark, rounder than a square, and better marketed than Gizmondo.

It's not that great of a feat - really. I'm currently reading count of monte cristo, and I love it so far.

So I read the first 10 chapters of The Historian today, and while it doesnt have that jump off the page and grab you by the throat excitement that Da Vinci had, it is moving quite nicely. Everything is told in narrative. The main character is a girl, who is nameless, and she is reminicising about her life when she was 16 and the fateful journey she went on in search of Dracula.

Some of the chapters drag a little, because all the author is doing is giving us a history lesson of some town or country the main characters are in. The the chapters that are about the journey to find the truth about Dracula, those are fun, exciting and fast paced.

I know I wont be done with this book in 2wks, which stinks, because Harry Potter 6 hits. So here is hoping I can blow through most of this and hold of on Potter until I can finish this.
