Spam comes into it, but it's advertising in general; it's just completely pathetic. I'm no expert, but surely the internet could work if the advertisers had half a brain (between them)? Every single fucking ad is some trick that gets you banana dollars, or some picture that looks like a menu but actually opens a pop-up, or something saying you're a winner when you're not. It might fool the odd internet newbie, but for anyone that's used it for a while it gets to the point where you just completely ignore ads because you know they're bullshit. Now all types of free services that get money from advertising are getting rarer and rare and the internet is just going further downhill.

I really think this discussion begins and ends with spammers. I hate advertising in general but at least it's somewhat easy to avoid in other forms of media. The level of it on the internet is just stupifying. What really gets me about it is that some of the spammers actually think they're appreciated. Really, they think they're doing us favors by sending a barrage of emails insulting the size and/or hardness of our penises.
