GAF help: Getting a multiplayer GC game for cousin

My cousin's birthday is coming up and I wanted to give him a game. He doesn't own an XBox or PS2, just a PSX, N64, and Game Cube. I guess I should get him a game for the newest system, but I need recommendations.

He plays with a lot of friends from school, so I'm wondering if there's a Mario Kart/Burnout/F-Zero-ish multiplayer (split screen) game for him to play along with his little buddies. Anything fun and fast-paced, because that's what he enjoys (I don't think he liked Need for Speed, though).

He's into football, but he's never really played a Madden game. I'm thinking about getting him Madden 2006...

So any new games worth checking?

Not neccesairly new, but you can always buy him Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2. Both games have fun multiplayer modes.

Maybe something out of the 3 GCN Mario Party games this generation?

Donkey Konga 1 or 2? 1 rocks but I'm not sure about 2 since I never played it. I loved the latin vibe in 1, and the multi player brings alot of fun.

Madden is a great choice, even if he isn't a football fan he'll get into it right away.

If you can find this game at bargain bins... get Ultimate Muscle. I'm in the extreme minority, but man is that game fun as hell! I bought it for 50 bucks and never felt ripped off. The multiplayer is such a joy in that game, IMO.

Smash Bros. without a doubt if they don't have it (hard to believe).

I heard that with the Madden port, you can only switch receivers with the stick and not the trigger method. This might sound arcane to those who haven't played with the new passing system, but if that's the case I would not recommend it.

Sega Soccer Slam... should be able to find a copy for like $10

I'll second this and add Wario Ware: Mega Party Games, depending on the age of your cousin. It is both fun and fast-paced, and while it is a little odd it's also a shitload of fun. While some people might consider themselves too cool, the game is just a shitload of fun for anyone. I had some of my second cousins over at my place over the summer and the ones that were 10 and 13 loved it for its general zaniness.

If you're willing to spend $50 on Madden, I think you'd be better off with buying Smash Bros and Super Monkey ball, or two other players choice titles.

Yeah, but I'm hoping at one point he gets tired of Madden and let's me borrow it.

Yet you're asking for help to buy a multiplayer Nintendo game. You should be able to answer that yourself. :P

Smash Bros. DX is, after all, first party material.

Why should I? I'm more of a handheld fan than a console fan, fellas. My knowledge of and experience with handhelds might not be equal to those of Jarrod, but that's the area where I invest most of my time and money on.
