GAF, I fucked up my computer trying to get it ready for Windows 10, HELP ME!

Many years ago, I was experimenting with Dual partitions, and I installed Opensuse along with Windows 7 and the Linux partition took over the boot partition, and that apparently doesn't let Windows Update install service updates either.

So recently i saw the rave reviews of Windows 10 and wanted to take advantage of the free upgrade so i attempted to, but it spat out an error basically saying it couldn't because the Windows 7 wasn't the active partition, so this morning, i tried to set the Windows 7 partition as the active partition, and restarted the computer, and all of a sudden, I got a black screen spitting out the error "BOOTMGR IS MISSING".

I'd appriciate any solutions that aren't "wipe it". I have so many pictures and projects on that computer that i cannot afford to lose. Any help appriciated.

I'd start with a Ubuntu live CD or USB. See if you can get the machine to boot up, mount the drive, and get your files off. Then (and only then!) you can think about fixing it.

I fucking hate bootmgr. Sometimes yes, it is an easy fix, sometimes it's fucking impossible to fix.

Worst case scenario, hook up the harddrive to another computer and backup all of your important shit then wipe it.

Took the words out of my mouth.

It struck when cloning disks at my parents house, got them an SSD.

Looking for the Win7 disk as we speak, haven't seen it in a while:/
