I'm moving to Southern California in a few months now and it looks like I'm headed to Westwood Village. Anybody have any advice on living in that area? I've been searching craigslist lately and plan on going out there in about a month or two and just driving around looking for for lease signs, but am not really familiar with the area.

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

It's VERY expensive. Westwood Village apartments are almost exclusively populated by UCLA students, so you might stop by campus and get a copy of the Daily Bruin to see if someone is looking for a roommate. (I don't know offhand if there is an online version of their paper.) The village itself is nice -- couple of shops, some restaurants, some famous movie theaters, etc.

Why did you pick Westwood Village, by the way?

Wow, what a high cost of living choice you've made. It certainly is a nice area, though -- although Santa Monica is constantly under construction :)

Here's a link to westwood apartments, just fill in your price range and etc.:

Thanks for the info. My biggest reasons for wanting to move to Westwood are because 1) lots of people my age, being near UCLA 2) it seems for the most part to be a safer, more student oriented area.

I was considering Santa Monica but Westwood seems to be cheaper and again, have more people my age in the area.

I'll be sure to stop by the UCLA campus and pick up the Daily Bruin. I don't mind spending $1,000-1,300 for a one bedroom, which seems to be the median price for Westwood.

It's a great area, expensive, but a fun place to live.
It can get a bit crowded on weekends, and during college football season, but if you're young it should be righ up your alley.
