YAY they are coming back :)

It was bought by Gunzilla Games and is managed as an independent entity with editorial independence, it's all in the announcement video. They will have reviews on the Game Informer website of all the games that came out during the gap. That's great news and glad to see their entire team is returning and to see what form this new version of Game Informer will take.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Was never the biggest fan of Game Informer, but compared to game journalism these days, I’d welcome the return to form. Gaming journalism and news continues to circle the drain of quality, especially with such a huge emphasis on clickbait titles and shit.

Hopefully they don’t succumb to the current trends of journalism and content creation.

What was their contribution that was so amazing? Why is it good that they are back? I’m still not sure what we’re celebrating here. their reviews were always standard run of the mill media game reviews. So, we’re getting more of those? Okay. So I will continue to not read them as I did before.

I do like some of their Youtube series like Super Replay or so. The Overblood one was hilarious.

More people talking about games, and doing so critically when necessary, is a good thing. They were not a detriment to the industry or their field during their first iteration and I imagine - now that they're mostly 'independent' - they'll be an asset. These are professionals that were good at their jobs. Like, actual news.

It also sucked how GameStop fucked them over and completely wiped their archives. So, glad to see they're able to work at their jobs again and hopefully people's efforts to try and restore those over the last few months pay off.

Game Informer used to be the window I had into gaming news when I was a kid. Parents wouldn’t let us use the internet (not that we didn’t try to sneak on) so getting a GI magazine felt mind blowing. They had so many interviews, pictures, lists of not just games but also gear you could get… man it was fun.

I felt betrayed when they made their magazine default to online. I think you had to opt in to getting the physical ones in the mail at some point.

Yeah, I remember those days when game previews were in magazines and you would read the same article/interview over and over and over again, stare at the same screenshots day after day and not get the play the game until months later. The internet made us all a lot more impatient.

I remember the FF9 cover issue being one that I read and reread multiple times lol.

Dude for real! Your friend would show you a cool trailer on the school computer at lunch or one he downloaded on to his android phone. Then when ya got your new magazine you’d be scouring the pages for it. Man that feeling when a game you were excited for was the cover feature.

For me it must’ve been Halo Reach’s that I read the most. The preview had me floored with the new Spartan III’s and how different they were to the Chief.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Man, I hope not. Lol.

I haven't followed GI since the late 90s but I'll subscribe on YT. check it out if it enters my YT algorithm.

Edit-
Bluesky accounts.
If you want to follow them, they posted this announcement on pretty much all major social media platform. I assume it means they'll be active on all of those. Especially the ones listed at the top of their site.

Not gonna lie, this is maybe the most exciting gaming thing this year. I don’t know about you guys, but I really felt like games media was in a REALLY rough place without them. Eager to see how things change being out from under GameStop (though I don’t really know anything about their new parent company).

Anyways, a very nice change of pace to hear folks actually getting their jobs BACK (and even raises from the sounds of it).
