GameCube goes 'open price' in Japan

is that an official "ok we give up, clear your stock" sort of thing? or do they keep shipping more of them?

would this include official gamecube peripherals such as controllers and memory cards?

According to the article, the PS2 was being sold at 'open price' a good while ago.

So yeah, Nintendrone protection team stat! =P

Lol the prices would be insane in europe if they did... :D
Shops are buying their gamecubes from nintendo for about 80eur taxes excluded.
Add the sale taxe (about 20% depending the country) and you'll see that the final retail price won't be that low ....

They should do this everywhere.
I think they do this in Dubai unless they are international corporations such as Virgin megastores. Over here, the local shops dont follow price drops or anything, they do what they want, but its usually nearly the same price over here as it is over in the USA.

I bought the Pokemon Collesseum bundle for £49 brand new four or five months ago.

It also included the game, a GBA link cable and a 256 memory card.

That is what you call a bargin.

Open price doesn't mean jack, a lot of electronic goods are sold as open price in Japan. All that means is one place is likely to sell it a few hundred yen less than another...I wouldn't go expecting the price to halve or something.

I see GameCubes for sale ABOVE Nintendo's suggested retail price at stores all the time here.

I don't see how opening the price to dip below (which is insane, as not letting them sell for less is called "price fixing" and is illegal in the US, as much as Nintendo and Sony have tried to force it) is going to change things much at all.
