definitely paper mario. haven't decided whether to buy or rent pikmin...i really enjoyed the first one, but it's short, and i don't expect it to have much replay value. and i'll pick up either taiko no tatsujin or donkey konga...taiko looks like the more appealing game, but i kind of want a set of congas for jungle beat. metroid prime 2 is probably a renter. if that. starfox is a possibility, depending on how it turns out.

What I'd like out of that list:
Pikmin 2 (Aug)
Donkey Konga (Sept)
Paper Mario 2 (Oct)
TMNT 2 (for the unlockable classic versions alone :)) (Oct)
MP2 (Nov)
Star Fox Armada (Nov)
Baiten Kaitos (Nov)
Fire Emblem (even though I don't think it'll happen) (Dec)
Mario Tennis (even though I don't think it'll happen) (Dec)

I'm not even counting RE4 or Advance Wars.

I'm also somewhat interested in some of the games, like Second Sight, but the above list represents those I'm 100% sure I want.

Really, quite a stellar holiday line-up for the GC. There's quality all-around. In fact, I think it's a more well-rounded lineup than the Xbox has this holiday as far as the number of exclusive titles that will more than likely be "good" (not trying to start a flame war or anything -- just stating the old opinion).

I'm getting all the first party games, TMNT, and Goldeneye. Add the DS launch to the November madness. Hoo, boy, better start selling blood or something.

Grizzly is getting:
09/27/2004 - Donkey Konga
10/11/2004 - Paper Mario 2
11/16/2004 - Baten Kaitos

Grizzly is still thinking about:
08/30/2004 - Pikmin 2

Baten Kaitos or Metroid.....Baten Kaitos or Metroid.....Baten Kaitos or Metroid.....Baten Kaitos or Metroid.....Baten Kaitos or Metroid.....Baten Kaitos or Metroid.....
must have Fire Emblem!!!!

Of course, that is assuming I have had enough time to beat Paper Mario 2.

November is going to be crazy on GC alone, and I want Suikoden IV and Metal Gear Solid 3 as well. The last Fire Emblem took me about 3 months to win and it was apparently the easiest game in the series made easier....This is even worse than when I had to choose from Ico, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Soul Reaver 2 (did not then know how much was cut from Soul Reaver 2). I played Ico first, beat it in a few days, played Metal Gear next, then played Soul Reaver months later.

A Shining Example
These:

August
08/24/2004 - Amazing Island
08/24/2004 - Phantasy Star Online I&II Plus (depending on whether or not you can import your regular PSO I&II save file)
08/30/2004 - Pikmin 2

September
09/07/2004 - WWE Day of Reckoning
09/21/2004 - Mega Man X Command Mission
09/23/2004 - X-Men: Legends
09/27/2004 - Donkey Konga
09/28/2004 - Def Jam Fight for NY

October
10/05/2004 - Tony Hawk's Underground 2
10/11/2004 - Paper Mario 2
10/19/2004 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

November
11/08/2004 - Intellivision Lives
11/15/2004 - Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
11/15/2004 - GoldenEye: Rogue Agent
11/16/2004 - Baten Kaitos
11/16/2004 - King Arthur
11/16/2004 - Need for Speed: Underground 2
11/16/2004 - Prince of Persia 2
11/29/2004 - Star Fox Armada

Unconfirmed/Uncertain
09/27/2004 - Advance Wars Under Fire (???)
12/01/2004 - Fire Emblem

Crap, you just reminded me of Suikoden IV and MGS3...Metroid is going off my list for sure then, won't have time.

Definite
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings & the Lost Ocean
Fire Emblem
Megaman X: Command Mission
Paper Mario II
Phantasy Star Online: Episodes I & II: PLUS

Maybe
Amazing Island
Armada II: Star Command
Digimon World IV
The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
X-Men Legends

Games I want (Not including the '05 games):
Pikmin 2
Metroid
Paper Mario 2
Fire Emblem
Advance Wars (if it's good)
Star Fox (if it's good)
POP2 (again, if it's good)

Edit: Now that I think about it, that is better than the Xbox's fall lineup. It just doesn't have a 'megaton' release like Halo 2.

08/24/2004 - Phantasy Star Online I&II Plus (maybe, if I sell original PSO on eBay)
08/30/2004 - Pikmin 2 (definite)

09/14/2004 - Second Sight (possibly)
09/20/2004 - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 (pending good reviews of the analog putting EA is supposedly implementing)
09/23/2004 - X-Men: Legends (pending good reviews)
09/27/2004 - Donkey Konga (definite)
09/27/2004 - Donkey Konga Bongo*

10/11/2004 - Paper Mario 2 (definite)

11/01/2004 - Lord of the Rings: Third Age (pending good reviews)
11/15/2004 - Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (definite)
11/16/2004 - Baten Kaitos (probably)
11/16/2004 - Prince of Persia 2 (it's possible I might buy this, but right now I don't see it happening)
11/29/2004 - Star Fox Armada (pending good reviews)

There are 17 games I seriously want coming out in November for GC, PS2, and GBA. The only 2 GBA games I care about all year, Kingdom Hearts and Zelda, come out within a day of each other. I will probably have time to play 2-3 if they are not too long.

Damn, August sucks ass, save for Pikmin 2. No big deal, I can chip into my backlog.

I'll also be getting my first Madden game of this gen in August.

Hail to the KING baby
It's funny that, for me, there's nothing less exciting than the typically underpowered GC multi-console releases, but nothing more exciting than the uniquely high quality GC exclusives.

Minish Cap isn't out until 2005, according to Nintendo. I'd advise agianst getting release date information from Gamestop or EBGames, as they often use placeholder dates.

Well, based on sales (and the general quality of GC ports versus exclusive releases), you're definitely not the only one. ;)

I think it is too early to do lists like this except for a handful of games written in stone. I think a fair number of these games will be delayed and a few will be added. You can only look ahead 2 months at best with any certainty, so Oct. and beyond can still change a lot between now and then.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Paper Mario 2 and Star Fox are the two games that I think I'll buy this year. I'll get Metroid Prime 2: Echoes eventually, but probably not right away. I still haven't played some games I bought last fall, so I don't need to go grabbing too many more.

Unless there's an incentive preorder deal, hot price deal, or limited pressing, I'll have to pass most stuff for all consoles.

On a side note, why is it that at the start of every year (like in mid-January) we have to go through the same "OMG GC only has 14 games sheduled for the entire year!!1!!!" based on what's on retailer sites at that moment (or like the "No Madden for GC this year" one earlier this year)? It's so silly. Don't people realized by now that January is pretty much the worst month to try to predict a year's worth of releases?

Wait, will Goldeneye be playable on Live? I read 2 different previews at Gamespot but neither one mentioned anything about it.

I thought only select EA games were going Live this year (mainly sports)? Not sure? :/

The only games I'll definitely be getting in the near future are MGS3, Hot Shots Golf: Fore, NBA and NHL 2K5. Some of these GameCube releases look delectable, though. My list of maybes:

09/27/2004 - Donkey Konga
10/11/2004 - Paper Mario 2
11/15/2004 - Room Zoom (If its MSRP is still $20 and it's similar to Re-Volt on DC)
11/29/2004 - Star Fox Armada

Lots of games i'm looking to buy, but I have a backlog of games I still don't have. I'm just bolding what i'm really looking to get for my purple lunchbox at or near release. Games italicized are what i'm most likely to get, but down the road.

(Yes, I am a GC whore, and that is why I buy multiconsole games for it even though I have an Xbox :p)
