Nearly $30 a month? Jezus.

How come I have never heard of Gamefly. It feels like I opened Neogaf in a black mirror episode where someone has a reality altering remote.

This is not meant to attack Gamefly since I am the one living under a rock and the problem is all me, but feels weird to see a gaming related logo that is 20+ years old that I can't place anywhere in my brain

To be fair, I know literally zero people IRL that use Gamefly. I used it like...10 years ago for a few months but that's about the extent of it.

I used to do Gamefly, around 360 era.

I feel like the price was $12 for 2 games at a time. Not sure.

These companies up their price every couple years, Netflix, Game pass, PSN, they have all upped their prices many times in the past decade. GameFly can say "market conditions" all they want. They upped it 2 years ago, what they say then?
Does not matter. Companies will 100% always raise prices and never lower them.

$28 for 2 disc plan yikes. Boomerang in the UK is £17 for their top 2-disc sub. Don't know of any other rental services in the UK.

At those prices it makes more sense to just buy the games…

But a $70 game, play a month, sell for $40, maybe more, it's the same price almost.

Or, if it's something you want to play longer than single month it's a no brainer to just buy it.

For it to pay off for me, I would have to absolutely hunker down, beat games in a day or two, ship 'em back and rinse and repeat.

I am sure it works for some, but these days, nah.. just wanna relax with a game, if it takes me 2 months, so be it. It's fine.

That's exactly it. Might as well just go and buy gamepass essentially. It's the same darn thing but instant as it's digital.

I don't understand their model (besides Sony and Nintendo?)

This. I've never heard of Gamefly.

I feel all this is a bit of opportunism with a lot of places as an excuse to drive up prices

Yep. Think so. I've prepaid for a year so I'm good until March next year, but after that I'm pretty much done. They are pricing themselves out of the market at this point.

How many games, on average, you usually get sent, played, sent back and more sent?

Curious. I am sure you try to get in as many as you can. Least I would.

They have more than just XBox games.

Also not everyone has an easy place to unload games to, if that's what you want to do.

It varies, but I've found it isn't worth it for new games because the games ship the same day they are released and takes almost a week to get to my house. I'd rather just buy it at that point. So I started using it for older games that I've been meaning to play. So probably two or three a month. Of course, some of those I just send back because I didn't care for them. That's fine too. At least I didn't spend money buying it. The nice thing is you earn some pretty good discounts that you can use if you have a game you want to keep. I bought Star Wars Outlaws for $8. So it has some dang good perks, but for me.....it has become overpriced at this point, so I'm going to not renew.

yeah, I recall "keeping" the game at a heavy discount and them shipping me the case and manual as well

Gamefly used to have insane discounts on the regular for their used games, and they always arrived in pristine condition and with all the stuff (case, artwork, etc.). During sales, they'd also have free shipping. I don't think I've bought anything used from them in over a year, just because their deals have been pretty lukewarm, and they started tacking on shipping charges.

I just checked, last game I bought from them used was Dragon's Dogma 2 for $29.99 + shipping in October. Eh, not terrible.

I've been a long time customer but i had to cancel recently. It was taking almost two weeks for games to get to my house and Im in the central US too. I could order stuff from aliexpress and it'll get here faster. I still buy games on there frequently though.

This would be the main issue, been years since I had it, shipping was good, but I have seen many complain lately on it taking a while, which defeats the entire purpose.

Ha. I got the email notification this morning. Only up a few bucks. I've been a member since day one. I'll be a member until the day they close their doors.

Yeah, the 2 game elite went from $32.99 to $34.99, a $2 increase. Not that bad in the grand scheme of things (although it still sucks)
