Games playable with one hand?

Like a Dragon 7 was the best game I played on one hand. Each of the subsequent games should be the same since it's turn based. I tried doing some of the older games in the series on one hand but it's just not working. Also, No Man's Sky can be done one handed, it's generally pretty chill. It can be frustrating though during base building but it's possible. I'm using a PS4 controller with REWASD, it works really well because you can assign different modes and two-button presses to add more functions. I also have the paddles on the PS4 controller. So in all, I have one joystick and 10 buttons on one hand. REWASD also has capabilities to map gyro to the right stick but I haven't taken the time to really make that happen. I'm sure it's possible but probably not intuitive.

True Story......when MK3 (Mortal Kombat 3) first came out in arcades many years ago, i had broken my wrist on rollerblades and had a cast. I trained myself how to play it with one arm and got quite good!

My right arm decided that it wouldn't work anymore for gaming, seems to be a tendon problem. My arm becomes sore after 30 minutes of holding a controller, or about 1h of using the right stick even on a flat surface (I also have the PlayStation Access Controllers).

I'm looking for Playstation games (probably 2D) that can be played with only 1 hand.
I can remap all face/shoulder buttons to the access controller and map the stick to be the left stick. I ordered the Logitech kit for the access controller, I can have up to 8 buttons on the floor that I can use with my feet.
I can have the other controller nearby for other buttons that are used less.

I'm looking for games that aren't ultra fast paced and without a lot of button mashing.
I was thinking of stuff like Fantasy Life or Octopath Traveler games, although I'm not sure if those use the right stick.
Any other game suggestions?
(I'm not into simulation games like Tropico)
Have you tried Expedition 33? It's not fast paced, single button pressing. Turn based but still challenging. Outside of battles it may be a bit annoying to turn the camera but I think it would be manageable. Gotta great story.

I watched a few videos and it seems very interesting. I added it to my list.

Really any of the turn based games would be worth a look I think, but really there's other genres you could look into as well:
Baldur's Gate 3
Any of the Personas
Sims
Simulators (I'm kinda getting into Power Wash and Crime Scene Cleaner (not sure if it's available on PS5))
Octopath Traveler I and II
Card Battlers (Slay the Spire, Balatro, Monster Train 1 and 2)
Real Time Strategy games like Anno and Age of Empires, Frost Punk
X-com-likes - Mutant year Zero, Xcom 1 and 2...Phoenix Point.
Graphic Novels: Tell-Tale games, Life is Strange
4x strategy games like Stellaris - you can play at your own pace, pause the game to make decisions, full difficulty customization.

Also I found this website that reviews all types of games for Accessibility. https://caniplaythat.com/ Give that a look.

I looked it up and it seems only certain games support mouse and keyboard on PS5. Would your arm be more comfortable if you could rest it on a desk and just use your wrist for mouse movement? That could really open up a lot of options for you to use both hands still.

KB+M would work but very few games support it, including some that should by default but don't because, lazy devs... Like Baldur's Gate 3.
When SteamOS is out and I get a pc I'll have plenty of choices, including great indies that don't get released on consoles.

Yea very true. I'm glad that would be a viable option for you. I'll keep thinking in the meantime.

Go up a few posts from me. I updated the list and included a website that specifically reviews games for accessibility. I tried to tag you as not to do a new post, but the "c" in your name is a cent sign and my keyboard couldn't do that.

I'd be thinking of doing everything possible to reactivate the hand instead of searching for titles that are played one handed.

But from the title alone, i came here to suggest Stellar Blade😊

Tendon issues take a very long time to heal, apparently they have very low blood supply, from 6 weeks to several months and I shouldn't do anything that stresses it.
Maybe in a month or two I'll be able to play 3d games, until then I'll get used to the Access controllers so I have a backup plan for older age issues... eventually...

Look into getting foot pedals. You can offload some button mappings to your feet. On PC theres plenty of options, and on consoles you could probably do it with accessibility controllers

Ok, so it will work in the future. Good. I thought you were stuck with one hand forever.
If so, i wouldn't even bother playing anything until you can use your second hand, no big deal.

It's something I've been considering, but I hate windows. I haven't touched it in 15 years.
I'm waiting for SteamOS to be released before I move to pc.
On PC side you can also use trackball devices which in general are a lot easier on your wrists.

In general though, VNs, Turn Based RPGs or Strategy games, Point and Click Adventure games can all be played with one hand.

I'm soooo bored!
I'm going to try to force myself to read a book or watch some YouTube until the kit for the Access controller arrives on Tuesday. 😕

Even without thinking, generally speaking, you know you'll essentially need to spend more. Spend on PC to play Flight Simulator, Strategy games, Football manager, Board games, Card games, Tetris, Indie and some honorable mentions like it takes two" in this game, you genuinely feel you need someone with you to play whether you're disabled or not, you still need someone to play with you".

Arc the lad 2
- relaxing game with the quirk of dieselpunk 90s, just like FF7 but in 2D and turn based strategy.
You don't need the first to enjoy the story.

Wild Arms 1
- You might be knew it already, the first are 2D although the combat rendered in 3D, lowpoly, similar to overworld FF7
The game might be lil bit outdated, but the theme is unique at the time, and of course it has banger OST

Ao no Tengai, Oriental Blue (GBA) - fantranslation

this is one of the games, where if You died vs boss, the story progress into different branch.
and also take too long for quest, by game time counter You might had different outcomes. this game is a blast from the past.
the combat is simple yet addictive
