Gamespot - Best platform of E3 is DS

Yeah, DS had a nice showing and I spent a substantial time playing all of the DS games, but...how many new games and surprises did they actually show there? I can only think of Mario & Luigi 2 really. Anyway, I enjoyed Trace Memory, Advance Wars DS (although the real-time mode was really shitty)...also Castlevania, the operation game from Atlus and Viewtiful Joe DS...although I never played any of those sadly.

But I thought PS2 had a strong line-up as well, with Soul Calibur 3, Okami, Devil Kings, Killer 7, Genji, Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdom Hearts II, New Onimusha and so on...no real surprises, but very solid games IMO.

me buying a DS is now a foregone conclusion... i was just hoping i could hold out until DS SP... not sure i'm going to make it.

I thought the PSP had creamed the DS according to these forums?? Looks like good looking sports and racing games will get you only so far. :lol :lol :lol :lol

In all reality, I'm enjoying this somewhat because I always thought the DS was the better handheld (price, franchises, ability to play advance). But the PSP will have its moments, I think they are both great handhelds and I'm glad to see that some people have ditched their fanboy ways and realize that a great game is still a great game regardless on what console its on.

I figured DS was underpowered for a reason. There is no way you can put a ps2 sized team on a handheld game and expect to make a profit.

Because it's impossible you can create a game with DS-like graphics on the PSP of course. ;)

Which makes the overcapable hardware an expensive waste.

The 'power' game just doesn't work in the handheld world.

In fact, one has to question whether it even works with consoles.

And yes, I have to agree that DS is looking more tempting now. I always had an open mind towards it but didn't see any compelling reason to get one yet (Mario 64 recycled wasn't enough). I can now see the day coming when I'll have to upgrade from my GBA.

ohhhhh you played it? was it local wireless you played? was it a complete (ish) version? how many courses were there?
Heh, it was better than that. Me and two other E3 attendees were playing a match with four karts. The fourth kart was being played by Charles Martinet....who was in Seattle at the time.

Quote: "Most surprising game according to Kasavin was Killzone 2 because it blew him away."

Now this is really getting embarrassing. I mean, you'd hope that someone in his position would see through such obvious smoke and mirrors.

For the record: The Killzone "footage" was a CG target video for what Sony hopes to see on its new system in three to four years.

Oh man if this gets quoted in a new thread it'll open up a new can of worms! 500 posts at least I would wager! :lol It is a good thing you buried this comment in a DS thread at GAF! :lol

DS looks damn fine after E3. I cannot believe it but it is true!

That seems to be one of the seeling point of the Revolution as well.

I have to agree.

I'm still playing the Meteos download I snagged at the Nintendo booth.

It heartened me to see the sheer volume of DS machines whipped out and fired up at the show.
