GAMESPOT reviews Lumines!

I can`t quite understand how a simple puzzler can get such a high score. But this sounds good for Meteos since it`s made by the same devlopers and that got much better scores in Famitsu than Lumines did.

So Meteos will propably get a 9.5 from Gamespot and make people forget about this simple tetris clone.

I guess you didn't read the editorial from Famitsu where the dude said if he had another chance he would give Lumines all 10s.

No I didn`t. Anyway the scores doesn`t really matter. Lumines bombed in Japan, it will bomb outside Japan, but Meteos will be a pretty big hit due to Nintendo fans being much more accepting to these "off-beat" games. Which means the DS will see more cool titles in the future.

So...uh...now it's a sales thing? Because before you were saying that Meteos would help people forget this "simple tetris clone" (nevermind the fact that it's neither simple, or a tetris clone)... which kind of seemed like you had a problem with the titles quality.

But, like, are you hoping Meteos sells more or less? Does it benefit you in someway if Lumines bombs and Meteos succeeds, or vice versa?

Isn't it a bit difficult for the game to bomb when no one was expecting it to sell alot, including Q? Their game studio was created with the purpose of creating low cost games so even if they sell 50k, they still profit on it. According to Miz, Sega even profited on Rez and that didn't even sell as much as Lumines.

i hate this (GA?) trend that equates game sales with quality. news flash, shit games can seel truck loads, and awesome games can seel like shit.

all you people who drool over sales charts fucking suck. unless your planning stock investments, who cares?

Why do you care if your favorite sport team win a match? You won't get anything from it. Same thing.

Yes, it benefits me so my DS will get even better development support and perhaps more developers will focus on DS over the PSP. And ofcourse more profit for Nintendo so they can continue making great games and hardware.

Someone please explain to me the definition of "bomb" for a game like Lumines. The game's development costs were really low, so it doesn't need to sell big to recoup their costs. What's the minimum number of units desired for a game like Lumines?

And I hope both games do well, anyone wishing bad sales for a Mizuguchi game needs to die

That is a horrible analogy. If a sports team wins a match, or multiple matches then they are good. They play the sport better than anyone else. Where as when X game outsells Y game it doesn't mean jack shit. I can maybe see the point of rooting for X game over Y game, but beyond the big wigs in the corporations sales numbers shoul not mean anything to anyone else.

Example -

Wow, Lumines sold less than Meteos, that game must suck.

We as gamers know that statment means nothing in terms of quality so why get so obssessed over it?

Are you being serious? I can't tell. Because this was painful.

fixed...

I don't think anyone's wishing for bad sales per say and oh, IAWYP.

Actually, Gregory does. He said that he wishes Lumines does poorly and that Meteos does better so that developer support for PSP would diminish and go to DS and make Nintendo "more profit."

Actually, REZ outsold Lumines when you add up the DC & PS2 versions together. Also, Lumines only sold about 40k. For rough JP sales of the Miz/UGA games...

SC5: 90k (DC/PS2)
Rez: 60k (DC/PS2)
SC5 Part 2: 30k (DC/PS2)
Astro Boy: 10k (PS2)
Kimishine: 95k (DS)
Lumines: 40k (PSP)
Meteos: tba (DS)

I dont really wish for bad Lumines sales, but I know Sony fans doesn`t really care for these kinds of games, as seen by the low sales of Rez and Lumines. They are much more suited for Nintendo hardware where they have a much bigger chance of doing well.

We`ll see when Meteos gets released, I`m sure it`ll do 100-200 K in Japan.

First, you don't LIKE a game because of its sales. You like it, THEN you praise its sales. Second, If someone likes Lumines more than Meteos, and that Lumines sells less than Meteos, then that's why they say Meteos is better, because they have some number to prove it. Argumentative text 101

WHAT? I assume you mean Sony fans don't appreciate "niche" or "quirky" titles. But of course your assumption has been proven wrong so many times over it's a non-issue. Leave the thread and come back with sense.

So we've got two problems based on what you're saying here: Sony fans don't like good games and Nintendo fans won't go where the good games are.
