What are you talkin bout Willis? I have had an Xbox for most of it's life along with PS2 and Gamecube. Just got rid of the PS2 because it didn't have any games on it I wanted.

Oh, and MAF was owned definitely. Z-ed out is a term most retailers know.
It's really pretty simple... when people come in near closing time, you just say "I'm cloing in five minutes" if it's actually ten minutes to closing. People normally either hurry up and get their stuff, or they just leave.
If someone tries to argue the time with you, you say that your computer runs a minute or two fast, or that their watch must be slow, and it rarely goes any further than that.
At *my* store, though... I click off 1/2 of the lights at 15 til closing, pull the gate halfway down at 10 til closing, and if everyone's gone at 5 til, I lock it up and start counting.
I don't worry too much about pissing off the "customers", because probably 85% of them are just looking and wasting time anyway, so if they get mad and don't come back, it's not like we're losing any sales.
edit - PS: I never heard of Z-ed out either. Worked for some pretty big retailers, too...

Should I walk into a dark, cramped videogame-specialty store and put up with attitude from the sales associates and possibly not get what I'm looking for or get ripped off in the process, or should I order from a reputable online retailer and get exactly what I want without any hassle beyond having to wait a day or two to get my game?

I usually never do this anyway. My wife wanted Xmen Legends on the spur of the moment.

so if the store is finally customer free by say... 9:21, we'd be lucky to go home by 10 (and this is OFF season... it was much worse during the holidays)

Atomsk: exactly, there's SO much to closing the store, and if you're clopen-ing (WEST COAST RETAIL TERM STANDS FOR CLOSING AND THEN OPENING THE NEXT DAY) it man does that suck.

When I worked retail, in a video game store no less, we were open for business until 9 and we stayed as late as we had to for the last customer to get out the door. If they were taking their sweet ass time about it, we might politly remind them of the time, but we let them finish up before closing out the register. The customer always came first, even when he was a selfish, slow-witted, bastard. Perhaps we've lost sight of what customer service means these days.
And for what it's worth, I live in the Mid-West and have heart the term Z-ed Out or Zeroed Out the register before too.
