Gamestop: We don't have enough to fill pre-orders!

So they're "asking" employees to wait....

Yeah, unless it's enforced let's see how many say "sure thing boss!"
 
GameStop will give those unfortunate customers (as well as unfortunate employees) a free used game or DVD valued at $19.99 or less when they eventually wind up purchasing the system.

Anyone who went through the 360 launch with GS should not be shocked at this. This is exactly why I didn't stress about pre-ordering with them.

Well its not like people are going to go out and buy another system when they can't get the PS3 at that point. If they can get the pre orders filled by Christmas as they say then all is well.

My store is getting 8 now, supposedly. Down from 16. Like the OP says, They will be calling people tommorow to confirm.

First one to pose the question: Are they holding them back because they know the bundlerape will ensue online? :lol
 
I can't help but smile thinking of all of the eBay pre-orders that are getting refunded.

I was #4 out of 8, so I hope that "not enough" does not mean less than half.

With ~40k preorders going through Gamestop/EB, this is a collosal ****up yet again by Sony. EB should be ~100k out of a 400k launch.

I'm at a loss for words at Sony's incompetance with respect to the PS3 launch. I thought they would have learned their lesson from the PS2 launch and then the 360 launch after it. Yet they manage to screw over the worldwide launch over and over and over again.

On the plus side, even though I was #14 out of #16 at my store, I'm the ONLY one who got a 20GB system. That should help, right?????

Anyone who went through ANY launches with Gamestop or EB shouldn't be surprised by this. I haven't pre-ordered a single piece of hardware from them since they totally ****ed up the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube launches back to back to back.

Not really. Stores like Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy are much more valuable than Gamestop and EB. Their newspaper ads with the consoles shown in them reach FAR more people than EB.

did they have different preorder skus for the 60gb and 20gb systems?
 
so that was with that weird call from EB. they called me about my preoder and asked that they can only hold it for 24hrs and , i was like, i will be there first thing friday morning.

now that call makes sense.

Best Buy & Wal-Mart - both slightly lower on the market share chain than Gamestop/EB since the merger. Not saying they don't have the clout to pull better allocations than they should because both of those businesses do far more Sony business (audio, video, computers, etc) than Gamestop does.

Yeah, at least they gave me a couple of week's notice that I wouldn't be getting the 360 that I pre-ordered and paid off in July. It gave me enough time to get a full refund and change around my schedule so that I could camp a retail store.

It sucks that those who pre-ordered get the bad news only a few days before launch, but at least they're making employees wait this time.

Why you people keep going back to them to purchase anything is beyond me.
 
i was 4th in line at my gamestop but the employees kept letting friends cut in line to preorder hours before we ever got a chance :(. i was technically the 11th person in the system to preorder the system. this would reallly piss me off.

EB/GS do not put ads in the Sunday paper. Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy DO. They reach far more people than EB/GS. Thus they get more systems.
 
I was worried for a moment that Wii Day was in trouble, but it's just the PS3... Crisis averted... Sony(or Gamestop) lied, preorders died :lol
 
oh for ****'s sake. i guess this is what i get for trusting gamestop enough to spend five hours in a folding chair.

Not in the video game industry. EB/Gamestop SELL MORE SYSTEMS than all of those stores. They are the #1 destination for day 1 hardcore gamers. Bar none. It's not even close.
