Gaming on a projector...

How is it?

Assume I had the right lighting conditions (meaning, no light), how would the graphic quality compare to a regular flat screen CRT?

I used to have a projector i used for gaming and in a room dark enough for it, it was a blast. four player goldeneye on a 10ft screen is just insane :)

It feels pretty great imo. The quality isn't as good as on CRT tv set but the size (hello Freud) makes it even overall. I'm actually playing much more since I've got my projector than when I used to play on TV and, something unexpected, many friends come for multiplayers sessions. It never happened before, even if it has nothing to do with the qualiti itself. :]

The main problem at the moment is the darkness, I don't mean the light in the room but the colors displayed. Games like Splinter Cell will suffer. If you're a Nintendo player it will be heaven that's for sure, the 1st time I saw Double Dash running in progressive scan I was in awe (until I tested F-zero, which is the most impressive game I've played on my projector).

Also, be sure to get some decent cables, RCA wont be good enough. I hardly played any PS2 game until I got a YUV cable instead of the normal one.

My friend has a projector that he uses for gaming and everything else. As long as the room is dark its fucking great. Some games do look quite bad on it but if you're playing a game with good graphics then there should be no problem.

If you have light control and can get theater-like darkness, then it is fantastic providing that you have a decent projector.

I never really considered it because even though I have complete light control in my finished basement, I just don't like sitting in total darkness when I've got a few friends over.

Under the right conditions, an HD projector playing a (quality) HD game like MVP Baseball, Amped 2, XMEN Legends is unmatched. The screen size and 1:1 pixel mapping (technically it isn't cause it's an analog connection) makes for a razor sharp image that trumps anything you're used to. Of course contrast and black levels are better on a CRT, but yo won't care hen you're gaming at 92" plus :D
