Gattaca is free on Amazon Prime Video now. You should watch it.

It's a great classic movie that has a lot of themes that are still relevant today. Plus, it has Ethan Hawke. Hamsters love Ethan Hawke.

If you used it for "Netflix n chill" purposes, please let me know how long it took until you started banging.

I watched it decades ago but was more enthralled by the sci-fi themes of The Thirteenth Floor which was completely overshadowed by the box office success of The Matrix in 1999.

Some good ideas and cinematography in GATTACA but it is kind of silly when you think about the finale.
The man investigating him was his brother (didn't recognize him) and he died of what the protagonist was genetically predisposed to die of after pursuing "justice".

P.S. Amazon Prime Video is a subscription service so it is not really free unless you are using the 30 day free Amazon Prime trial.

Bro what movie did you watch?

The brother didn't die of any heart condition lmao.
Also last time he saw him was when he was 16 and in the movie they never actually physically cross paths. Why would they? Its obvious Ethans character recognised him and avoided contact at all costs.

With that said gattaca is the goat, underrated and one of the best movies of all time.

Banging soundtrack too.

Not as cerebral, but if you want to make it a great movie marathon you can watch Equilibrium and Children of Men afterwards. They have the same bleak atmosphere.

it's been free on the past several international flights I took, but still didn't watch it -- I saw this at its original run and am concerned that it won't hold up a second time. That's often my experience with sci-fi of that specific era... I can't even rewatch the first Matrix anymore, it feels like a product of its narrow slice of time more than anything.

Children of Men will always hold up. And I'd say that it is cerebral, but in a subtle way. After all, with birthrates across all developed nations tanking far below replacement, it feels particularly prescient now. It perfectly depicts our spiritual atrophy.

I saw The Matrix in my local theater last summer and it was still absolutely amazing. It puts modern movies to shame.

That's an interesting point of view actually. I'll be looking at it through those "glasses" on my next watch. CoM does so many amazing things through it's world-building and scenery and is very unique.

"Her" is also free on Prime, too. That was a decent scifi flick. IIRC the first time I saw it was right after watching Ex Machina lol.

Spoilers...
It has been decades but I recollect that Anton drowned during the final race with Vincent due to a weak heart. Anton did not recognize Vincent as far as I recall.

There are a lot of good movies on Amazon Prime tbh

Just don't pay for their ad-free option because ublock takes care of the ads just fine.
