GB micro initial shipment to be 250,000 [Japan]

I've got preorders in for me and CVXFREAK already.
The Famicom version is hot property.
DCharlie's trying to resist... we must make him cave!!!

One of my mates from NST wants me to pick this up for him (I have no desire for one with my shitty eyes). Jonny, can you preorder the Famis anymore?

Are you fucking kidding me? Why do I need this? I ride my damn bike to school, so I don't have 'commuter time' to play. I also already have the PSP and DS. WHY OH WHY do I need this? Fuck you Nintendo.

I hope they all sell out so I can't buy one.

Hmm...maybe I should pre-order, although it seems like the advantage to living in a small city is that nothing seems to sell out here (so far!). Local game store has display boxes all over the store now.

God dammit, I can't believe I'm buying a GBA for that Famicom version even when I have a DS here and no GBA games anymore.

I just NEED it.

I really have to stop coming into these threads, I just know I'm going to cave and get the Famicom one. Looks so damn good. Must resist...

erm... you mean the hole for the carry strap or the charger connection... my micro gets lots of envious glances and questions when I'm on the tube... people are really excited about it - and they go "ah.. a tiny gameboy - cool... when's it out" people on other threads are saying micro is a mistake - it'll do really well as a new addition to the GBA family...

I certainly think it's going to come out of the shoot like a monster, but longer term I do have some reservations. Basically, the price and the usability. I've heard few positive comments regarding actually playing it and more than a few complaints.

But, to be honest, the core audience has yet to speak up , or even try it, most likely.

in terms of usability, i'm hearing gb micro has some issues, but no more than any other handheld, and the overall opinion is it's hot, and a 'must have!'.

like sonycowboy said, i think it has huge potential for the first year or so, but long term i'm not so sure. saying that, i think total [final] sales will be over 10 million worldwide, which is probably what nintendo is aiming for. a stop gap until the next gameboy which will probably hit sometime in 2007.

I really can't guage the demand, having watched the industy since late SNES era, typically I can predict fairly well how things will go.

If I had to guess,

Special Edition = Sold Out
Regular Edition about 30-50% sell through. < 100k units sold

I would estimate much higher (80-100%) had the GBA SP not existed and/or the DS did not play GBA games. But this is the 3rd release of the GBA hardware standalone...

SP had the advantage of Light and Folding.. GBAMicro only has size as an advantage, with a smaller screen thats a bit clearer beacuse its backlit.. I don't see a lot of consumers rushing out to get it, especially at the price.

You really can't be serious thinking this will sell, right??

$100 for a glorified SP? Hell, not even and SP, a shrunken SP.
What's the appeal?

Release it at $50 and MAYBE we'll talk, anything more is just too much. Especially considering a DS is only $30 more and a SP is $30 less.

Nintendo confuses the hell out of me sometimes.

But... it's so.. small. And cute.

I got my Famicom GBm pre-ordered. going to pick it up when I go to Japan next week for TGS....

How'd you preorder it? I'm also headed to TGS and would love to preorder ahead of time.

I can't believe people are getting excited about another fucking Game Boy Advance system. Especially when the SP is already small, has a bigger screen, and the clamshell design makes it the superior product of the two.

No wonder the Japan game market is shrinking.

Why? You're wrong because it will sell great.

Well it is crazy. There are people posting in this thread who have no interest in GBA games yet are buying Micro? Also, you can play GBA games on:

Game Boy Advance
Game Boy Advance SP
Nintendo DS

The micro looks like a cumbersome piece of equipment. You want small, portable, and durable you buy SP. Hell, I would rather people buy DS systems than the Micro. At least the DS gives you more tangible value than the micro ever could.

Out of curiosity, how is the Micro resizing GBA games on the smaller screen.

It's not though, according to most people who used it.

I won't be getting one myself, but Nintendo is going for a certain market with this one and it will work well.

The Micro screen just has a tighter dot pitch - it runs at the same resolution as the original GBA's. Text is still readable and such, but no, the system really didn't need an even smaller screen.

No. The Micro is small and has an even brighter seen. Come on, dude. It's really small. It's worth it. Maybe not at $100, but it is worth it. Besides, consumers should know for themselves what they want. A bigger, Gameboy player with clamshell design or a more expensive, but smaller one with a brighter screen and metal body? The Micro is made to make even more people play GBA games, not to beat more money out of already GBA customers (though Nintendo obviously doesn't mind).

If anyone wants to see the GBM in action you can check out Patrick Norton playing it on the newest episode of DigitalLifeTV (show 4, about 21 minutes in).
