SCEI has communicated that today.
I hope there will be a demo at the E3,I'm really looking forward this game.

Me to...It's weird Yoshiki has sold his soul to Microsoft having this awesome game scheduled for a PS2 release. Dunno, I thought this was the beginning of a great relation between Game Republic and SCEI...but it seems it isn't the case.

Yay! Hopefully it ends up being Onimusha but 10x better in every department and causes Capcom to re-think the Onimusha series.

It's just for two games,he won't be developing exclusively for MS forever.
He has already complained he can't port these two games on other consoles in the recent interview.
Of course he can't be blamed since Microsoft offered him to pay all the development costs for the two games, and Game Republic as a relatively small developer needs this kind of contracts.

Well...I think the Onimusha series are ok as they are now: ENDED and CLOSED.

By this I mean the following: Onimusha 1 was a short game but incredibly good. Very polished, with cool graphics (they were nice despite prerrended), an awesome soundtrack (I think it's one of the best 10 soundtracks ever) and an ambience that was very nice and beliable. The japanese castle is so cool and well represented that I loved playing the game.

Then Onimusha 2 introduced some things that were very good like the gifts a 10000x times better main character (Yusaku Matsuda >>>> Takeshi Kaneshiro; sorry Takeshi, I liked you a lot in Fallen Angels but in Onimusha Yusaku rocks :P ) but in general terms te story lacked interest and was less beliable. The music was worse imo.

Onimusha 3 was an awesome experience from the gameplay point of view...but story-wise you soon realize that sometimes the guys at CAPCOM drink too much (as Mikami and friend proved in the Wesker Report). This is more agravating if you consider that many Onimusha fans played it because the japanese classic ambience and not because the sci-fi/terror elements. Despite all this the game was pretty good but well...
So instead of seeing an Onimusha 4 being horrible as hell, I prefer to leave things as they are now. I am sure that a 4th game would mean more Sci-Fi and less medieval pacing...And well, I am not interested on this.

According to the Onimusha3 ending it doesn't seem there will be this drastic change.
Also the strategy of putting a modern western setting in the game, which has admittedly been taken only for commercial reasons, hasn't proved to be successful under this perspective.
Onimusha 3 bombed hard in Usa,did worse than its predecessors in Japan.
Only in Europe sales met the expectations.

Yea, Oni3 bombed hard in US and bombed somewhat (compared to the first two) in Japan. I guess that's what happens when you make a retarded game :P

If Genji can even just be Onimusha but with a more flexible battle engine and a not stupidest-plot-ever story I think the Japanese will really dig it.

Well, I have to admit that Jean Reno was too much cool to miss the game !!! Perhaps they should have added Harrison Ford in the US release...

If Genji is a hit, then the commercial imperative might cause Game Republic to developed the sequel for the PS3. They are unlikely to walk away from a hit franchise, unless Sony gives the development to someone else.

Look at True Fantasy Live Online, surely the development of this game was impacted by the developer conflicting work on Dragon Quest 8.

In fact,Genji is a Sony title, developed with the same kind of contract they have with Microsoft Games Studios for the 2 Xenon games.
Same sitution with Dark Cloud and Level5 for example.
If there will be a sequel to Genji it will be on PS3.

Wasn't there a strong rumour about Onimusha 4 circling a couple of weeks back?
I don't think Okamoto is that bothered about not being able to release these games on other consoles, to be honest. The money hats will make sure of that. He's also doing stuff on the Xbox2 that he hasn't been doing before, RPGs and the like. It might not be a success in the gameplay department ;)

Genji, like a lot of new Sony franchises, will probably suffer from poor sales. It doesn't mean they won't make a sequel, but it's way too early to start talking about sequels. Sony don't always make sequels of their games either, big or small.
